UK Border Agency (UKBA) in Coquelles is looking to appoint an Administrative Officer.
Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters. We are responsible for managing the UK border control by enforcing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.
Coquelles is a large command with 400 staff working 365 days a year with 24/7 coverage. Officers are deployed to both Immigration and customs frontline duties. It is vital that the successful candidate has the ability to interact with the Port Operator, Eurotunnel, and is able to foster excellent working relationships.
The job will involve travel to UKBF office at Port of Coquelles, France. This role does require an elevated level of flexibility and is not NOH (no night working, but it does include weekends). The successful candidate will need to be able to:
- Balance the competing demands of supporting frontline operations;
- Managing contractors;
- Working with the Port Operator on matters such as accommodation and H&S;
Managing PPE supplies for the current pandemic is a priority.
The job holder will be expected to provide a good level of written and oral communication in both French and English and be able to engage with stakeholders, contractors, and higher grades within BF. The ability to self-motivate and work unsupervised is an essential requirement for this role. The postholder must be able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure, so good time management is essential. There is no line management responsibility.
The role will include collating information, identifying and reporting faults and making recommendations to improve and streamline working practices. This is a quickly changing work area with numerous long-term projects underway and candidates will need to be flexible and willing to embrace change.
There is a fixed roster, however there is a need to deploy flexibly and the post holder is therefore expected to manage their own hours effectively to meet all elements of the contract.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The role encompasses a range of responsibilities that include:
- Liaising with contractors, Eurotunnel, SMT, BMU, Operational frontline officers;
- Management of accommodation fault reporting and monitoring (Eurotunnel and FM provider). Attending regular meetings with FM provider to progress outstanding work orders;
- Monitor PPE levels and ensure operational officers have access to supplies
- Provision of written and spoken translation services;
- Arranging access for Border Force members of staff, partners and contractors.
- Fluency both oral and written in English and French (Common European Framework level C1 or above, or equivalent);
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
- Excellent customer facing orientation, organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;
- Strong people skills and diplomacy;
- Applicants should be aware that duties may require visits to other offices within the EU and therefore a clean current driving license valid in France and the United Kingdom is essential along with a valid passport.
- Experience within an Anglo/French working environment;
- Good local knowledge.

This is a full-time permanent contract (35 weekly hours).
