The British Embassy in Chisinau is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to employ an Assistant to Defence Attaché

The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative and representational assistance to the UK Defence Attaché and Defence Section, including liaison between the UK and Moldovan Security and Defence sectors.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and representational assistance to, and deputise for, the Defence Attaché as required;
  • Establish and maintain contacts across the UK and Moldovan Security and Defence sectors, including Ministries of Defence, think tanks, non-governmental organisations and civil society;
  • Support and facilitate the implementation of the Defence Bilateral Agreement between the UK and Moldova, providing advice on potential areas for enhanced co-operation;
  • Support the delivery of UK-Moldova Defence Engagement activity;
  • Accompany the Defence Attaché to meetings at all levels from national (strategic) to military unit (tactical);
  • Provide translation and interpreting duties to/from Romanian/Russian/English as required;
  • Monitor media outputs, and provide a monthly summary of key events;
  • Provide day-to-day office management, including correspondence, filing, diary management and monthly financial reporting;
  • Line manage the Defence Section Driver & Clerical Assistant, providing clear direction and performance management.

  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English, Romanian and Russian;
  • Understanding of the role and outputs of the Moldovan Security and Defence sectors;
  • External facing role, requiring well developed customer engagement and communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised and contribute positively as part of a small team;
  • Good organisational skills, prioritising effectively and delivering under pressure to tight deadlines;
  • Positive attitude to learning and development opportunities;
  • Proactive, flexible, can-do attitude;
  • Excellent MS Office skills.

  • Understanding of the role and outputs of the UK Security and Defence sectors;
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Internal Relations or other related subject;
  • Budget management experience.
