Main purpose of job:

 

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government department charged with promoting and financing international trade and development, and championing free trade. In Brazil, DIT operates within the British Embassy in Brasília, and Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife, with a team who work primarily through a number of sector specific export promotion campaigns.

 

This is a brilliant opportunity to work on one of the most important export campaigns for UK Government in Brazil.  Support business (exports and ODI) between the UK and Brazil in the renewable energies (excluding the offshore renewables) and the Nuclear sectors, and work to overcome market barriers in the Brazilian market that prevent British companies doing business in this specific sector.

 

You will work as part of DIT’s Energy, Maritime and Mining Team, which is responsible for assisting UK Energy, Maritime and Mining industries in their efforts to export. DIT Brazil works to build strong relationships with overseas industry and governments, providing specialist export advice and practical assistance to British companies and working closely with UK and Brazil government departments. You will work closely with one other B3L Business Development Manager who focuses on Offshore Wind, Decarbonisation in the Oil & Gas sectors, and Maritime.

 

You will be responsible for managing an existing pipeline of commercial opportunities and researching and validating new prospects in the energy sector. This position will involve contact with government ministries and senior executives. To successfully lead your campaign, manage your team well and make a positive contribution to the diplomatic mission, you will need strong communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence.

 

This is an ideal position for someone with the ability to work collaboratively with an international team. The job will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high standard.

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

 

The successful candidate will integrate and support the whole DIT team through the following activities:

 

Trade support

Lead the renewables team aiming to meet the commercial targets (export and overseas direct investment – ODI from the UK), prioritising Solar, Bioenergy, Hydrogen, Electric Network and Nuclear, mitigating COVID impacts on companies’ interests in Brazil, promoting clean growth and using LATAC energy network to leverage the impact of the companies in the region;Build strong relationships with key Brazilian companies, Ministries, Secretaries, senior military and public authorities and other customers to facilitate door opening for UK companies;

Lead on Solar Energy market access barriers by creating a programme of activities to solve market access issues; work with the British Chamber of Commerce in Brazil’s   Renewable Energy Committee to promote discussions on the barriers; develop an engagement on the barriers aligned with climate agenda; co-lead the Hydrogen barrier; identify new barriers by constantly engaging with Brazilian industry and UK stakeholders;

Maintain a detailed understanding of the Brazilian Renewable energy sectors and identify relevant commercial opportunities and trends;

Gain a strong understanding of UK capability and build a network of export-ready companies with the resilience needed for the Brazilian market;

Offer and provide high quality advice to UK companies on how to access and navigate the Brazilian market;

Produce reports on renewable energy sub-sectors markets in line with the Brazil and LATAC energy strategies;

 

Trade promotion

Identify, plan and organise a select number of events that advance the campaigns, e.g. webinars, lunches, dinners, key trade fairs or trade missions, seminars, showcases, dialogues ministerial and senior official visits, working closely with colleagues in London and the Embassy;

Develop relationships with important Brazilian stakeholders to join key events and showcase UK Capabilities.

Raise awareness in the UK of trade opportunities in the Renewables sectors in Brazil, including joint work with DIT Northeast team, Northern Powerhouse representative and the DIT team in Minas Gerais.

Leadership: lead and mentor the renewables analyst and intern by;

Business Development: Expand the buyer’s knowledge of UK capability within the priority areas in Brazil; increase the interest of the UK companies and their participation in business leads in Brazil by leading the regional renewables outreach strategy,

 

Leadership

·       Line manage an analyst and counter-sign for an intern colleagues, carrying out an appraisal process twice a year.   Supporting them in developing understanding of the renewable energy sector, their own career progression, and in developing their leadership and commercial skills

·       Support the DIT sector Manager (C4L) and Regional Director for Energy in developing and implementing Brazil and Latin America and Caribbean strategies for the renewables sectors.

 

 

 

Essential on arrival:

•            Professional experience in business, commercial and account management functions

•            Strong knowledge and broad network in Power/Renewable Energy sectors

•            Ability to solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks

•            Capacity to have a high-standard customer-focused approach

•            Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience and autonomy

•            Written and oral fluency and very good communication skills in both Portuguese and English

•            Very good command of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Desirable:

•                    Knowledge of the UK capability in the renewable sector

•            A University degree in Business Administration, International Relations, or related fields

•            Experience in the Energy sector

•            Knowledge/understanding of Brazilian business landscape

•            Familiarisation of market entry strategies into Brazil for UK energy companies

•            Academic/professional experience with energy will be highly appreciated
