Main purpose of job
The Climate Change Internship will provide a better understanding of the embassy’s goals and objectives, insight into how an international organisation operates, and framework to enhance educational experiences through practical work assignments, thereby developing personal and professional skills, which will be useful for future employment. The intern will specifically support the work of the Political Officer and Head of the Political Section to deliver the Embassy’s climate change objectives in Guatemala and Honduras in the lead up to COP26 in November 2021. Roles and responsibilities
- monitor environmental policy initiatives and developments in Guatemala and Honduras
- analyse environmental UK policy documents linked to COP26 and other climate priorities
- contribute to strengthening our work with stakeholders in Guatemala and Honduras, notably in relation to the COP26 and its logistical arrangements
- contribute to the dissemination of UK COP26 key policies, activities and meetings (preparing communication material, forward case-studies and publications, and suggest wording for social media)
- support the organisation of engaging activities ahead of COP26 for Guatemala and Honduras: virtual meetings, visits, schedule events and deliver key messages in local language in coordination with the Political Officer at the British Embassy, and the host government (GUA/HON)
- support the draft of agendas, draft briefing notes and meeting minutes
The above is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. You will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by HMA/Political Officer. These responsibilities may be reviewed on an ongoing basis in accordance with the changing needs of the organisation.
Qualifications
- Degree qualification or equivalent experience.
- Further training, experience or training in project management.
Knowledge and experience
- Previous experience in similar role in project/programme management in public sector or with bilateral/multilateral organisations.
- Experience of building a network and managing effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, delivery partners and local and community groups.
- Experience drafting briefing papers, reports and presentations.
Skills and Capabilities
- Excellent written and oral communications skills on complex matters, often requiring persuasion and influence.
- Ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload without supervision working to tight and often changing timescales.
- Adaptability, flexibility and ability to cope with uncertainty and change.
- Ability to handle strictly confidential information from internal and external sources whilst always adhering to best practices of confidentiality.
- Computer literate and proficient user of Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint.

Level of language required: fluent written and oral.
Knowledge and Experience
- Understanding of biodiversity conservation, landscape scale and community based development and conservation.
- Experience of organizing events/conferences/workshops.
