Main purpose of job:
This is a challenging position within the Climate Team at the British Embassy in Brasilia. The Climate Team fosters collaboration between Brazil and the UK through high-level meetings, visits, missions, and programmes.
The role of the jobholder is to track and report on the latest climate policy developments in Brazil, to offer administrative support to the Climate Team and support the delivery of briefings, events, and visits. The jobholder is also responsible for overseeing financial and administrative support to the team.
This position will contribute to the British Embassy work to tackle Climate Change, including diplomatic action to support delivery of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in November 2021.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- To support implementation of the UK’s COP26 strategy for Brazil, working to the climate policy officer and with the wider climate, political, prosperity and communications teams to deliver Brazil Network’s priorities.
- To support the Brazil Network and Whitehall colleagues on engagement with Brazil, liaising with officials in the Brazilian Government (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, etc.) and with non-government actors on policy and operational elements of delivering COP26.
- Reporting and knowledge management: to support in the administration and maintenance of sector reports and data, keeping those updated and regularly shared with internal stakeholders. Ad-hoc: monitor and report on most relevant developments related to Climate/Environment in Brazil.
- Events and communications: support in the delivery communications pieces (eg social media material) and events (eg Ministerial and official visits, seminars, conferences), including its logistics, agendas, attendance management, programme structure, etc.
- Financial and administrative: provide administrative support, including assistance in the purchase of goods and services in compliance with UK Government guidelines, raise requisitions and pay suppliers in line with the Embassy’s procurement system.
- To hold a corporate responsibility objective which contributes to the wider corporate agenda of the Brazil Network.
- Experience working for an organisation in a relevant field: national or state government, international organisations or agencies.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese;
- University degree in a related field (International Relations, History, Political Science, Economics, etc);
- Proven research and reporting skills;
- Able to deal with multiple tasks and priorities;
- Problem-solving, attention to detail and efficient administrative skills;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- IT literacy in electronic media, MS Outlook and MS Office packages.
- Understanding of international climate change policy, with relevant contact with the subject including through university or previous professional work experience.
