Communications, Press and Media
The British Embassy in Chisinau is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a regional Communication and Media Manager.
Main purpose of job:
- To manage communications and media work across Embassy teams (defence, projects and programme and political), utilising social media platforms and engagement with the press;
- To amplify the visibility and messaging of UK Government policies in Moldova, including designing and delivering an Embassy Communications Strategy;
- To develop engaging campaigns, online/offline events to explain, promote and advance UK priorities in Moldova. Working closely with Her Majesty’s Ambassador and Embassy colleagues to improve effective communications across all teams. Proactively seek out media opportunities;
- To lead on the Chevening Scholarship programme: work during the marketing period to promote the programme; organise the selection process and pre-departure/welcome home events; maintain a collaborative and active relationship with Chevening alumni (local and regional) and create engagement opportunities.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Communications and Press
- Develop media plans for Embassy activities and events; identifying innovative ways to enhance visibility; lead on media strategy;
- Provide advice and support to the Ambassador and other colleagues to enable them to use communications and media outlets in order to deliver Post objectives, sharing best practice across teams;
- Foster good working relationships with a diverse network of media contacts; provide advice on media handling, in response to enquiries or interview requests;
- Develop and maintain contacts with journalists, representatives of media NGOs and local influencers;
- Draft and publish content (press releases, statements, photos, video, infographics) on Embassy digital media channels (Facebook and Twitter);
- Report on the media landscape;
- Ad hoc tasks as required (e.g. updates to gov.uk Travel Advice for Moldova).
Public Diplomacy
- Responsible for the Embassy online presence – Facebook, Twitter and local media platforms. Evaluate our presence on social-media by creating reports and insights;
- Work closely with HMA, DHM, Head of Programmes and Defence Attaché to promote projects and programmes;
- Organise events to maximise Embassy’s public diplomacy e.g. regional visits, receptions with media contacts, events to promote central UK priorities and initiatives;
- Work with external partners and stakeholders to maximise public diplomacy;
- Design the Embassy’s modalities for UK government campaigns, such as COP26, Media Freedom, Global Britain and our bilateral agreement;
- Responsible for a small representational and budget;
- Provide support and cover for Post’s Political Officer as required.
Chevening Officer
- Promote Chevening scholarship programme by increasing the visibility of the programme and attracting high quality applicants;
- Lead on selection process in liaison with the Chevening Secretariat;
- Maintain and enhance links with the Chevening alumni community; Support Chevening Alumni to apply for funds offered by the Chevening Secretariat.
- Fluency in English, Romanian and Russian (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*). Be able to prepare press releases in all three languages;
- Graduate degree with a proven professional track record in communications, media or a similar relevant field;
- At least 2 years of experience of working with media, government, international organisations or CSOs;
- Solid understanding of the Moldovan press community and civil society;
- Ability to adapt to changing social media environment, identifying and using innovative media tools;
- Ability to draft effective messages to different audiences, using the appropriate tools;
- IT proficiency and ability to work across multiple platforms and experience with social media and editing platforms. Good knowledge of Microsoft office suite programmes;
- Ability to respond quickly to fast-moving situations;
- Excellent communications skills with a positive, inclusive, team attitude.
- Experience in managing social media accounts, including content creation (Facebook, Twitter);
- Experience with image and video editing software;
- Track record of designing and implementing creative media solutions (traditional and/or new media);
- Knowledge of British political system and the UK-Moldova relationship;
- University degree – preferably in Media, International Relations or similar related subject.

This is a permanent full-time contract.
