The British Embassy in Rabat is seeking a hard working team player to take up the position of Communications Officer grade A2 (L).

Main purpose of the job:

The successful applicant will manage and promote the British Embassy’s digital media presence, creating innovative content for the British Embassy Social Media accounts and ensuring regular communication and evaluation of engagement to a wide group of Embassy staff.

This is an interesting role which will suit an individual who is a team player and is adaptable to changing requirements. As audience engagement with digital media is constantly evolving, the successful candidate should expect the role to similarly change and evolve during their time with the Embassy.

The successful candidate will work with teams across the Embassy and report to the Communications and Stakeholder Manager.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who pays attention to detail and performs well under pressure.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as a Social Media Manager by creating engaging content, analysing audiences and ensuring regular reporting and evaluation, working to improve the impact of the British Embassy;
  • Community Management: Proactively engaging with comments and messages on Social Media;
  • Liaise with teams across the Embassy to promote different activities and programmes;
  • Liaise with senior management as necessary to provide advice on social media engagement;
  • Event coverage: ensuring photography and videography coverage of events;
  • Video filming and montage: leading on filming, briefing and video montage;
  • Website management: creating, updating and uploading content to Embassy-managed webpages;
  • Design: designing visuals for key internal and external events and activities;
  • Media monitoring: reporting on UK related stories in the Moroccan Media;
  • Provide translation and interpretation from and to Arabic, English and French;
  • Other assistance to the Communication’s work.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

  • Has previously managed Social Media accounts.
  • Excellent communication skills and organisational skills, including the ability to create engaging content, to prioritise tasks and to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and to take the initiative as well as being able to work well with others.

  • Has a degree in Communication.
  • Familiar with managing online reputation and audience analysis.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non negotiable gross salary of MAD 14,385 per month, inclusive of all allowances. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, 21 days of annual leave per annum (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays, access to on-site swimming pool, tennis court and gym facilities.

The contract will be for a full-time employment, on a permanent basis subject to 6 month’s probation period.

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday. Given the need to attend events for the purposes of photography/videography, this role will involve some evening and weekend working. Time off in lieu will be given for any hours worked outside normal office hours (Mon-Thu 0800-1615, Fri 0800-1300). Due to the nature of the job, the Communications Officer is expected to be flexible and remain reachable beyond working hours for emergencies.

The Embassy encourages flexible working subject to operational need and line manager’s approval. Independent working will be tested as a competence in interviews.

This job could be done as a job share, provided both job share partners were able to meet the requirement to work out of hours as needed for events.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.
