Public Diplomacy

Main purpose of job:

To lead on internal and external communications for the British High Commission in Windhoek, manage stakeholder relations, media management and social & digital media coordinator.

To manage the Chevening scholarships programme in Namibia and engagement on Commonwealth scholarships programme.

Political reporting and analysis.

Roles and responsibilities:

Communications: management of digital communications and social media platforms for the British High Commission. Lead on public affairs including liaising with local media and other external stakeholders to promote the UK Government in Namibia.   Lead on communications campaigns, as well as providing strategic support to wider UK Government campaigns.    

Chevening Scholarships: implementation and administration of the UK Government scholarship programme in Namibia including marketing and PR to promote the award; management of the application process including candidate selection, interviews, and support to successful candidates; engaging with stakeholders and the Namibia Chevening Alumni Network.

Commonwealth Scholarships: provide marketing suport, and engaging with potential candidates as well as with the in-country alumni network.

Political: lead on reporting and analysis of the political situation in Namibia

The role will include corporate responsibilities within the British High Commission, and requires ad hoc cover for colleagues during periods of absence. The successful candidate should also be flexible as there is the potential for some adjustment to the role outlined above.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

None currently though possible staff management in the future.

  • Knowledge of IT including creating creative digital content
  • Previous experience in communications / media & public relations
  • Degree in Communciations / PR / Marketing / Journalism
  • Fluent in English

There are a wealth of learning and development opportunities available within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.   In addition, there will be specific communications training courses available in-house.

Some flexibility in working from home is possible.
