Driver / Messenger

The British High Commission in Malta is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking for a Driver/Messenger/Handyperson.

The new hire will provide Driver/Messenger/Handyperson services to the British High Commission.  Driving British High Commission (BHC) staff on official meetings and engagements. Delivering mail and purchasing items on behalf of Corporate Services (CS). Carry out repairs and maintenance as required at the BHC properties.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Driver:

  • Drive BHC Staff to official meetings/engagements as requested by Travel Booking Officer, ensuring that the correct protocol and safety guidelines are adhered too (training will be provided).

  • Maintain the cleanliness of vehicles.

  • Ensure that all vehicles are maintained as necessary.

  • Ensure that vehicles are adequately fuelled.

  • Record all journeys and provide records to Corporate Services Manager on a monthly basis.

Messenger/Handyperson Services:

  • Delivering mail as required.

  • Postal services: e.g. registered mail.

  • Liaising with Government Departments as necessary to process relevant documentation: e.g. Transport Malta.

  • Make purchases on behalf of the BHC, using the appropriate payment mechanism.

  • Carry out repairs and maintenance at BHC properties.

  • Ad-hoc duties as requested by the Corporate Services Manager (CSM).

  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written, minimum B1-B2 level*);

  • Clean current valid driving license.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to build effective working relationships.

  • Ability to drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles.

  • Ability to carry out routine accommodation repairs/maintenance e.g. painting and plumbing.

  • Fluency in Maltese would be an advantage.

  • Previous handyperson experience highly desirable.

  • Electrical qualifications highly desirable.

  • IT skills would be deemed an advantage.

  • Previous experience as a driver, with knowledge of local laws and regulations.

This is a part-time fixed-term contract for one year with possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
