The British Embassy in Tehran is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance & HR Support Officer to:
- Provide support to the Finance and HR Manager and other members of the team on all finance/HR matters;
- Deliver an efficient and professional accounts service in line with Foreign & Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) financial policy and objectives;
- Provide a professional HR service in Tehran and in line with Iranian labour law, best practice and central FCDO policy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Finance tasks:
- To assist with the efficient running of the Accounts office in compliance with audit/financial best practice requirements, promptly processing all cash/cheque/online payments and receipts;
- Prepare and update the CB staff payroll and Social Security Organisation employer contribution list monthly for Corporate Services Manager review and action;
- Preparing financial returns including Network Post Accounting spreadsheet, replenishing the imprests, reconciliations and monthly checks;
- Accurately monitoring the Embassy utility budget and timely payment of all utility bills for both Embassy compounds;
- Monitor and prompt payment of all staff official mobile bills as per the staff mobile usage policy;
- Dealing with queries from Finance Hub, circulating the Corporate rate of exchange rate to CB and UK Based Staff, and daily monitoring/recording local rates of exchange for foreign currencies;
- Record keeping/filing of accounts documents in accordance with Embassy guidelines and audit requirements;
- Back up for the other Accounts Officer during periods of absence;
- Accounting admin tasks, which may be assigned by the Corporate Services Manager.
HR tasks:
- Prepare monthly individual payslips for CB Staff salary payments;
- General HR admin: Update and monitor absence (paid/unpaid/special leave/TOIL etc) list for Corporate Services Team;
- Prepare routine confirmation of employment letters for CB Staff;
- In Liaison with HR Hub, ensure an accurate record and headcount of CB Staff is available on Prism/HERA
- Monitoring the Embassy staff list held with the Social Security Organisation to ensure staff details are registered/removed and required monthly employer contributions paid;
- Liaison Officer with the supplementary health insurance provider and CB Staff.
This is not an exhaustive list but covers the key set of tasks and responsibilities. The jobholder may be asked to carry out other ad-hoc duties upon discussion with the line manager. The jobholder will be expected to do all tasks within their level of skill and ability.

- Fluency in Farsi and Excellent written and verbal English (minimum IELTS score of 7). Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely;
- Minimum 3 years experience of administration work, ideally in a Finance (Accounts/Budget Forecasting) and HR setting;
- Excellent organisational skills and good attention to detail;
- Ability to deliver high quality work within deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong and empathetic customer focus and the ability to respond to a range of customers’ needs. Demonstrates courtesy and consideration in dealing with stakeholders;
- Able to think logically and solve problems;
- Ability to work independently, but also with colleagues and contacts in the immediate and wider teams as appropriate;
- Excellent IT skills, especially standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook).
- Relevant human resources and accounting work experience in an Embassy or International organisation.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of USD 2,099.27 (converted and paid in Iranian Rials at the market exchange rate) per month.
This is a full-time role based on 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will initially be offered a three (3) month contract to cover the probationary period. Following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a fixed term one (1) year renewable contract will be issued.
Normal working hours are from 07:30 to 14:30 – Sunday to Thursday. Working patterns subject to agreement with the line manager and business needs.
