Gardening

Main purpose of job: Garden design and maintenance, overall upkeep of the grounds at the British High Commissioner’s Residence.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Garden/landscaping design, layout and maintenance;
  • Complete lawn maintenance;
  • Pruning and weeding of small trees, shrubs and garden beds;
  • Seasonal clean-up (spring and autumn) which includes, cutting back plants, leaf collection, mulch and bed augmentation, lawn repair, pruning of certain shrubs and trees as needed;
  • General maintenance and upkeep of irrigation system including repairs to sprinklers as required;
  • Winter grounds maintenance including snow removal, ice clearing, salting and sanding;
  • Plant and vegetable propagation upkeep including collaboration with Chef for production of vegetable garden;
  • Procurement of materials and supplies;
  • Contractor management for all contractors doing work on house or grounds;
  • Management of contractor for pool opening/closing & weekly cleaning;
  • Pool area maintenance, leaf clean up, weeding, deck clean up;
  • Basic handy person services for house and grounds.

 

  • Ideally, 5 years’ experience as a professional Gardener;
  • Basic computer skills (word processing, excel);
  • Experience with snow clearing using snow plough/snow blower;
  • Language: fluent in English;
  • Must have the legal status to live and work in Canada. 

 

  • College diploma or equivalent post-secondary education in horticulture.
