Main purpose of job:
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government Ministry that brings together trade policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment, and help British businesses succeed globally. We have offices and teams across the globe. Across our network in Brazil we help UK companies succeed.
This important role is central to ensuring that the UK achieves our strategic objectives in partnership with Brazil. This role will lead two important sectors across Brazil: Creative Industries and Retail. This role will support UK companies to win business in Brazil, to increase the flow of investment between the Brazil and the UK, and to work on Market Access and Trade Policy issues to improve the trading environment for these sectors. The successful candidate will have robust knowledge of the Creative Sector’s key areas: film & TV production, computer gaming and advertising/ad-tech.
The jobholder will also play an important role in the management chain of a new role established in the North East of Brazil, which will seek to explore new opportunities for UK businesses in that region. This is an ideal position, therefore, for someone with existing leadership qualities to further stretch, as well as the proven ability to develop and deliver strategy across teams and through others, overcoming resistance and obstacles. The job will be challenging and will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high quality standard.
As a senior role in the UK’s Brazil Network, there will be an expectation of the successful candidate to play an active role across a number of Network issues.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Lead the Creative Industries & Retail Team and campaign in Brazil
- Develop and deliver a programme of activity to support UK Creative Industries companies to do more, and higher quality business in Brazil, including high-level visits, trade missions, and account management.
- Promote UK TV Content amongst senior industry decision makers. Working with the sector team in London, promote business opportunities to UK industry.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high level/VIP visit programs and manage cross-embassy activities. This will include: compiling visit programs, planning company meetings, writing briefing materials, chairing meetings and sessions.
- Working in coordination with the Creative Virtual Team with the leads across the region to develop and deliver joint initiatives supporting the expansion of UK Creative companies.
- Work with other DIT Brazil Sector Teams and relevant stakeholders, including the British Council, to identify opportunities for partnership that can showcase the UK’s Creative Industries capabilities to a wide range of stakeholders in Brazil.
- To undertake a study of opportunities in Brazil for the UK’s Retail Sector, working with internal and external stakeholders to turn this into a campaign for increased UK business success.
- To support the establishment of the DIT Business Manager in North East Brazil, overseeing the development of our understanding of opportunities in that region for UK businesses, and the implementation of a plan to maximise them.
- As a senior member or the team at the British Consulate in Rio de Janeiro and in the UK’s Brazil Network, play an active leadership role and provide inputs and recommendations to the Consul General and Deputy Consul General on a range of corporate issues. To lead the response to certain issues to be agreed in due course.
Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
Effective line management of 1 x B3 + oversight of team that also comprises 1 x A2 and one intern.
Ensure good financial, project and procurement management as part of the wider consulate team.
- Account management, excellent stakeholder management skills and project management.
- A BA degree in business, International Relations, Economics or a related field.
- At least four years of relevant business development experience and a solid understanding of the Brazilian business environment.
- Good understanding of, commercial operations, sales, policy expertise, government to government engagement and institutional and business partnerships.
- Clear motivation and personal commitment to meeting challenging targets with a proven track-record of achievement.
- An excellent network of industry contacts in the creative sector in Brazil with a proven track-record of bringing together UK and Brazilian stakeholders.
- Valid passport; the ability to attend official functions outside of office hours; and the ability to undertake domestic and international air travel, including overnight stays.
- At least 3 years of Line Management experience.
- Familiarisation of market entry strategies into Brazil for UK creative companies.
- Fluency in Portuguese and English.
