Main purpose of job:

The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) in North America seeks a proactive, enthusiastic, results-driven Head of Marketing Campaigns, with a minimum of 7-10 years of marketing experience, to lead effective marketing campaigns across the US and Canada. Our marketing campaigns target DIT’s business audiences including exporters, consumers, influencers, economic policy makers, and external partners, to encourage them to invest in the UK or buy British goods and services. 
 
Under the strategic direction of the Head of Communications for DIT North America, the Head of Campaigns will work closely with the Head of Marketing Services to develop annual communications and marketing strategy for Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America (HMTC) in support of DIT’s objectives, outlined in the annual Regional Trade Plan.

The Head of Campaigns will also work closely and collaboratively with London-based colleagues in DIT’s Communications and Marketing Directorate HQ, particularly the Deputy Director of Communication & Marketing (as the jobholder’s countersigning officer), in support of core departmental campaigns and priority initiatives.

This role will oversee three campaign managers to develop integrated campaigns across DIT’s priority sectors. The jobholder will work with other UK government departments and partners in the region to ensure our campaign objectives and core messaging are aligned and reach mutual target audiences.
 
The jobholder will also prepare and share periodic reports to senior leadership on the progress of the campaigns (relating to the main KPIs), and proactively identify and suggest actions aimed at enhancing influence and delivering DIT’s export and investment objectves in North America.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
   

  • Develop, deploy and evaluate DIT’s integrated marketing campaigns in North America for priority sectors;
  • Lead the Campaign Managers in development of targeted, integrated marketing campaigns for the region’s annual Integrated Sector Plans, based on audience segmentation and analysis from colleagues across the network, and working closely with North America-based sector leads;
  • Develop the communications and marketing strategy of HMTC North America’s Regional Trade Plan, collaboratively with the Head of Marketing Services and under the direction of the Head of Communications;
  • Collaborate with and support DIT’s Communications and Marketing Directorate HQ on core departmental campaigns and priority initiatives, particularly the delivery of the Ready To Trade Campaign in North America;
  • Deliver the GREAT Campaign in North America: advise, direct, and encourage cross-UK Government colleagues to devise ambitious campaigns, projects and events that meet government communication objectives and outcomes. Ensure GREAT campaigns are brand-compliant and represent value for money. Ensure that DIT brand and identity is adhered to in campaigns;
  • Ensure campaigns are evaluated and present analytics, outcomes, and lessons learned to the North America Senior Management team and headquarters-based marketing team in UK. Research, collect, and use data to inform the deployment of new campaigns and the evaluation of existing campaigns;
  • Manage the local relationship with DIT HQ’s global media buying agency and media partners. Manage contract with locally-contracted public relations agency; review and amend marketing contracts for events, activations, and partnerships (attainment of UK Government Contract Management qualification will be required);  
  • Ensure Campaign Managers develop marketing toolkits for campaigns, projects and major events that are current, accurate, well-written, on-brand, and meet needs of internal/external partners and audiences.  
  • Proactively develop a pipeline of long term, strategic and high-value corporate partnerships for relevant collaboration and project/event sponsorships;
  •  Work within a budget, report any overspend, and spot opportunities for streamlining costs; maintain regular evaluation measurements of the return on investment of campaigns.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. marketing, business administration, English, economics, communications).
  • At least 7-10 years of marketing campaigns experience in a government, non-profit, agency, and/or in-house setting.
  • Management experience and ability to set direction and manage workflows for three Campaign Managers, ensuring high volume output and efficiency.
  • Budget management experience and demonstrated ability to deliver value for money.
  • Contract management experience and demonstrated ability to deliver value for money.
  • Creatively-minded, solutions-oriented, and collaborative to the core.
  • A track record of securing positive results for dynamic marketing campaigns, and coming up with creative solutions for localization and contextualization of global campaigns and initiatives for localized audiences.
  • Excellent command of the English language, with attention to detail and strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. A demonstrated ability to write clearly, accurately, and persuasively.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Effective networking skills and natural ability to develop new strategic relationships.
  • A demonstrated ability to deliver results in challenging environments.
  • Reliable, capable under pressure, with a good understanding of the challenges, sensitivities, and discretion required of working in the world of government and diplomacy.
  • Self-starter, good decision-making skills, and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrable interest in the UK and international affairs.

  • Familiarity with the UK’s system of government and political system.
  • Good grasp of general economic policies; general understanding of trade policy, trade and investment promotion.
  • A professional marketing industry qualification or certification, such as in digital marketing, event management, content marketing, marketing analytics, and campaign strategy.

Working patterns:
