Main purpose of job:

The British Consulate-General in Hong Kong invites applications for a part – time (20.5 hours a week) IT support officer. 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to make a tangible operational contribution whilst deepening their IT expertise in a prestigious diplomatic mission.

This front line, customer-facing, service delivery role involves providing IT support to staff at the Consulate-General.  

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and some IT experience or a strong interest in IT combined with the willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?  

Working as part of a team, this role requires the job holder to :

  • Troubleshoot and resolve user, hardware and network problems.
  • Escalate problems to a centralised IT Helpdesk in the UK as appropriate.  
  • Keep IT asset inventory up to date
  • Help set up rooms and equipment for presentations

This role does not require an IT background as full training will be provided on arrival.  IT expertise would be an advantage, but equally a readiness to learn new skills would be highly valued.

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Five eyes passport holder  (holder of a British, American, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian passport)

Full on-the-job training will be provided. E-learning and mentoring programme to learn about Foreign and Commonwealth Office systems will also be available.
