The British Embassy in Dushanbe is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a full-time dedicated Housekeeper to provide the full range of domestic, kitchen and cleaning services of the Official Residence of the British Ambassador (HMA) and his/her family (which is also HMA’s and his/her family house); to keep it clean and tidy, with all fittings in good working order; to assist with serving at official events as required; occasional meal preparation.

The Residence is used for accommodating high profile visitors and regular entertaining for a wide range of guests. The jobholder has an essential role in the Residence team ensuring that residents and guests enjoy an excellent service.

The role requires someone who is able to work with a high degree of professionalism and with minimal supervision. The successful candidate should have a positive attitude, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to getting things done and to problem solving. Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and time management skills are important. The successful candidate will demonstrate a flexible approach and ability to respond to changes of plan and last minute requests.

Specific duties outlined below may be subject to change depending on HMA’s needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine cleaning of all Residence premises, ensuring a high standard of presentation in all its parts, keeping it clean and tidy at all times;
  • Laundry and ironing of official Residence items and for HMA and his/her family; provide regular cleaning of private parts of the Residence (washing and cleaning duties will be agreed separately with HMA and his/her partner/spouse);
  • Liaise with Corporate Services team for requesting maintenance and keeping an updated maintenance schedule; supervise and monitor maintenance and refurbishment works;
  • Set up entertainment rooms for official functions, events and meetings, as well as overnight guests, including arranging tables and chairs, place settings, floral arrangements, preparing and keeping tidy the guest room, etc., in accordance with HMA, his/her spouse/partner, and Residence Manager’s instructions; supervise waiting staff during events;
  • Greet visitors and official overnight guests (providing them with information, refreshments, cleaning and ironing services as required etc.); and ensure the hosts know they have arrived;
  • Serve meals for a range of different functions and occasions, including formal dinners and meals with official overnight guests; assist the Residence cook in the kitchen as required;
  • Maintain accurate records of residence’s officially-funded supplies and assets such as: inventory of wine, beer, soft drinks, toiletries, food stocks and of Residence property, government art and furnishings, household items; ensure timely restocking of all supplies (including tea and coffee), as well as replacement/purchase new equipment, kitchenware and household items as necessary;
  • Effective and timely management of the Residence accounts on a monthly basis, working closely with the Embassy’s Corporate Services section;
  • Communicate and work effectively with the Residence team (cook, gardener and guards);
  • Liaise with and help direct additional Hired Staff whenever required.

  • Intermediate level of English and Tajik and/or Russian;
  • Secondary Education;
  • Experience as domestic staff and in running a household;
  • Food hygiene and health and safety awareness;
  • Flexibility and availability to work beyond conditioned hours including evenings and occasionally weekends.

  • Experience of large events such as receptions and formal dinners.

This position is a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed-term contract until 10 January 2022 with the possibility of renewal, subject to a 3 month probation period. The person may be required to work at evenings or during weekends. Working hours are flexible and the position is entitled to time off in lieu (TOIL) for extra hours worked.

The monthly gross salary is USD 491.37 and will be paid at a local S1 level.

The successful candidate, will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance.
