Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy is seeking a Human Resources Officer to join the US Network HR team in Washington, D.C. As a Human Resources Officer you will be supporting compensation planning and administration for over 550 members of staff in 14 different locations. This is a temporary position to provide cover during a leave of absence.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Compensation
- Oversee and implement all pay uplifts for the US Network (ensuring annual, temporary and ad-hoc uplifts have legally compliant supporting paperwork and have followed internal processes).
- Bi-weekly, check payroll preview to ensure accuracy prior to processing.
Benefits
- Administer the 401(k) plan by calculating and submitting 401(k) contributions, amending plan documents, coordinating trainings and overseeing the annual audit.
- Coordinate with the wider benefits team on any changes to benefits that result in a change to compensation, oversee the HR team submission of all pay changes to the payroll team.
- Supervise the HR Coordinator position and act as their point of escalation for employee enquiries.
- Carry out regular reporting on local staff including leave balances, payroll census, etc.
- Conduct annual Workers Compensation audit.
Job Slotting / Job Descriptions
- Provide support to managers when creating new positions by assisting with job descriptions ensuring they properly align to the current framework.
- Review job descriptions for new and current positions to determine where the position falls on our grading scale, ensuring consistency with US Network compensation policies.
- Prepare background research for any current positions, to be evaluated for promotion or salary change and present recommendations.
Other
- Ensure US compliance with yearend reporting (W2s, 1095-C forms, 401k and medical 5500s).
- Administer the Corporate Commercial Insurance programme (including processing invoices).
- Feed into wider team projects, including development of HR policy, specifically relating to compensation.
- All other duties as assigned.

Other skills / experience / qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and 3 to 5 years’ experience required (additional years of relevant experience may count towards degree requirement)
- 2 to 3 years’ experience with Excel to include using pivot tables, VLOOKUP function and creating interactive reports.
- Proven ability to exercise good judgement with little or no supervision.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment while delivering excellent customer service.

- Background in accounting or finance a plus.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Word and Power Point.
