The British Embassy in Copenhagen is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a HR Officer. This is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover position.

The successful candidate will provide support and have ownership for a broad variety of activities across HR. They will also have a proven track record of providing pragmatic, solutions-focused HR advice to line managers across the entire employee lifecycle and recruitment.   This is an independent role and is a part of the Corporate Services team.

Main Duties

HR

  • Regular update of local HR policies and procedures and staff handbook when necessary
  • Drawing up contracts and terms and conditions for local staff; including non-pay benefits package
  • Staff engagement survey follow up and lead on employee engagement initiatives
  • Ensuring accurate information management; manage the administration of contracts and personnel files held locally
  • Assist line managers with their responsibilities within the HR processes, including, but not limited to, recruitment, performance management, and employee relations issues
  • Support the Corporate Services Manager in maintaining Local Staff Charter in conjunction with Local Staff Association
  • Provide up to date HR information for payroll and pensions, and be back-up payroll administration for the Finance Assistant
  • General administrative tasks to ensure information and guidance is up to date and relevant.
  • Key contact for Europe HR Hub 

Learning and Development

  • Act as Learning and Development Champion at post
  • Conduct local Learning Needs Analysis and provide input to annual L&D Strategy
  • Mapping and organising of Learning and Development activities
  • Responsible for L&D budget at Post
  • Act as Performance Management Champion

Key contact for Regional HR Hub

  • Key contact at post on Danish employment legislation
  • Liaise with local legal advisers on locally-employed staff HR related issues
  • Review and feed into policy on legal matters and provide updates on labour law changes to the Europe Regional HR Hub.
  • Recruitment support for HR Hub

UK Based Staff in Copenhagen Administration

  • Support on language providers
  • Protocol and contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Work closely with Corporate Services Manager and Community Liaison Officer on supporting UK based staff in Copenhagen

Other

  • Provide leave cover for the Ambassador’s Personal Assistant

  • Possess general knowledge about HR and Danish employment law (including the Holiday Act)
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Proactive with the ability and passion to deliver an excellent customer service
  • Strong team player who can communicate well
  • Confident communicating both in English and Danish – spoken and written

  • HR management qualification
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a HR function within an international organisation
  • Experienced in payroll processing

This is a full-time temporary position, a maternity leave cover, with the duration of 12 months and with the possibility of renewal. Working hours are 35h net per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorization for Denmark in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Copenhagen are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Danish employment law.

Visa / Passport Requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Denmark and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
