Main purpose of job:

The British Government’s US Network is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to act as the key customer-facing part of the US Network HR Team based at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. This position is primarily responsible for responding to HR queries or escalating to other members of the HR Team, in support of c.900 staff based in 9 diplomatic missions (and several other locations) across the United States. 

The ideal candidate will be an engaging and collaborative team player who is able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. They will have a clear commitment to providing excellent customer service and administrative support.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Acting as the initial point of contact for HR support. Aiming to provide a once and done service wherever possible or provide warm handovers to other colleagues within the HR Team if necessary.
  • Providing administrative support for the HR Team, including filling, data entry into the workforce planning system, and maintaining records for compliance purposes.
  • Working with other members of the HR Team to organise and run meetings and events as necessary.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Essential on arrival:      

  • Demonstrable experience in providing customer services in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable in using MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Under US State Department requirements, the UK Government in the US may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Permanent Residents or A visa holders with EAD cards*. *A visas are acceptable at the Embassy and Consulates. The UK Mission to the UN (UKMIS) accepts G visas, and British Defense Staff (BDS) outposts accept A or NATO visas.  

Desirable:      

  • Direct experience of working in HR or in a government setting.

This role is 40 hours a week, but does not require set working hours each day. The nature of the role means the successful candidate will need to engage with colleagues frequently during core business hours, but that can be managed to accommodate personal circumstances.
