Immigration Enforcement International (formerly RALON)
Main purpose of job:
The successful candidate will work as part of the Immigration Enforcement International (IEI) team. They will be based at the British High Commission Pretoria.
IEI form part of the Immigration Enforcement arm of the Home Office within Immigration Intelligence and the Pretoria team is responsible for 27 countries across Southern, Eastern and Central Africa. We work with UK and international law enforcement partners to tackle immigration crime, primarily through preventing the travel of inadequately documented passengers to the UK; enhancing visa decision quality; identifying and tackling underlying criminality and providing intelligence about threats to the UK border. We disrupt organised crime groups involved in immigration crime with a renewed focus on bringing to justice those who exploit the vulnerable, for example cases of modern slavery and human trafficking.
The successful candidate will need to work closely with UK Visas and Immigration in Pretoria as well as with other Government departments and external partners.
They will need to be proactive as they’ll be required to assess intelligence and conduct research but they will also need to be reactive as they will be expected to deal with live enquiries.
The role requires effective decision making.The ability to analyse complex data and make recommendations based on the conclusions is important.
Roles and responsibilities:
Duty Office:

Assist the Immigration Liaison Duty Officer with the daily management of the office.

Provide effective and timely responses to referrals from Entry Clearance Officers, Immigration Liaisons/Managers and conduct checks on their behalf.

Manage the IEI inbox: ensure queries sent to IEI Pretoria Inbox are dealt with by relevant ILMs and ILOs, and statistical data received from the UK and other organisations is processed correctly and on time.

Ensure all documents and intelligence are stored and disseminated within the parameters of Home Office guidance.
Airline and Host authority Liaison:

Update the databases on a regular basis with information received from ILO, ILM, airlines, and results of document verifications received from the UKVI Enrichment Unit.

Liaise with airlines and airport security companies.
Handling intelligence and official data:

Receiving, grading and disseminating intelligence, circulating suspect alerts, contributing to monthly reports, and preparing monthly statistical returns.
- Conducting checks against government systems; using information to inform decision making and to make recommendations for further research/investigations.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Use of an evidence based approach to gather information from a wide range of sources and viewpoints, analysis and evaluation and reaching sound conclusions in order to propose constructive solutions
- Effective and confident communication skills
- The ability to prioritise work effectively under pressure

The British High Commission pays in full for the Key Care Plus option on Discovery Health for staff including spouses/partners and dependants.
- Once you have successfully completed your probation the British High Commission will contribute 9% of your monthly salary to a Provident Fund.
