The British Embassy Doha is part of a worldwide network that represents political, economic, security and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Immigration Liaison Assistant to provide flexible support, investigative skills and cultural advice to the Immigration Enforcement International network in Qatar.
Immigration Enforcement International is a law enforcement agency within the UK Home Office, whose responsibility it is to tackle organised immigration crime and prevent illegal migration.
The jobholder will assist delivery on specific projects on Organised Immigration Crime and facilitate bilateral cooperation with key partners within host law enforcement, judicial agencies and other key external stakeholders. The jobholder will be required to develop a clear strategic knowledge of the threat from Organised Immigration Crime in Qatar and the region in order to provide practical support to the Immigration Liaison Officers (ILO), manage records and analyse data.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Liaise with partners across government within the British Embassy Qatar, general mission staff and foreign national liaison officers and other stakeholders locally across the region.
- Undertake analysis, research and development on a variety of information received from the UK Home Office, airlines and hosts on immigration crime and other sources.
- Maintain accurate records on databases.
- Assist travel planning and accounting.
- Submit reports on programmes, including ad hoc, monthly, interim, quarterly, annual and end-of-project reports.
- Act as a translator / interpreter (if Arabic or other relevant languages spoken).

Working Hours and Remuneration:
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of QR 11,785 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QR 800 per calendar month, paid in arrears. The contract will be a full time, fixed term for 1 year subject to 3 months’ probation period.
No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday. Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate may be required to work outside normal working hours.
Team members will provide all the necessary support and guidance to enable the jobholder to learn and master the core aspects of the job. The wider embassy team will also ensure that the jobholder understands how their work fits into the wider relationship between UK and Qatar.
The jobholder will be required to work towards and obtain IPP (Intelligence Professionalization Portfolio) accreditation, a recognised professional accreditation within the UK Law Enforcement Community.
Completion of all mandatory training as required by the jobholder.
The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy and will be required to have or obtain the appropriate security clearance before employment commences and maintain this throughout period of employment.
Eligibility:
Applicants must already reside in Qatar and hold the right to live and work there, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months.
Due to the large amount of applications, the Embassy receives only those shortlisted for interview will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. Applicants selected for interview will be required to complete a translation test as part of the interview process.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances, medical clearance and reference checks.
