Public Diplomacy
The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE)) and is now looking to recruit an Intern for UK Permanent Delegation to UNESCO.
The intern will cover the following policy areas: Education, Science, Culture, Media Freedom, Internal and External Communications.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Liaising with UK government departments to develop the UK approach to important policy issues at UNESCO;
- Helping the Delegation drive forward UK priorities in key UNESCO policy-focused committees such as the Executive Board and the General Conference;
- Monitoring key UNESCO policy meetings and outputs, and producing regular reports for officials in Whitehall in the FCO network;
- Providing logistical and policy support for high-level events and visits to UNESCO, including attending preparatory meetings, writing briefings and official reports;
- Identifying further opportunities for the UK to benefit from UNESCO’s current and future work streams to achieve policy objectives;
- Supporting the relevant team with ad hoc specific activities.
- Full professional proficiency in English and French, including excellent writing skills* (C1 Level)- assessed at interview (Interns will work in both languages)
- Master’s degree (completed or in progress) in International Relations, International Public Policy/Law.
- Excellent communication skills (including written/spoken English) with an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge/interest public policy, education, culture and foreign policy.
- The ability to deliver quickly, and show flexibility in the face of changing priorities or demands.
- Resourcefulness and ability to act on own initiative, with an ability to find creative solutions and knowing when to ask for support/guidance.
- Good project management skills and an understanding of how to present information.
- Self-starter, drive and enthusiasm, with the ability to deliver, working as a part of a team.

This is a full-time and temporary internship position of up to 6 months, with target start date mid September.
At the beginning of your internship you should be able to provide us with a convention de stage provided by your university/higher education establishment and liability Insurance to cover your period of internship at the British Embassy.
All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at https://www.cjn.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/b3/eje20 ), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.
