Main purpose of job:
To support the Trade and Investment section on a wide range of issues from trade promotion, market access, trade policy and other activities.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Trade Promotion: assist the Trade and Investment section to identify business opportunities for UK companies; conduct market research and reports on different sectors in Costa Rica and Nicaragua; update business contacts; organisational support with trade events, both virtual and in person.
- Market access and Trade Policy: Monitor press on trade and economic issues of interest to the UK, conduct research on specific market access topics assigned by team.
- General: Provide general logistical support to the Trade and Investment section.
- Candidates should be currently pursuing or have completed a university degree in any of the following areas including, but not limited to International Relations, Political Science, Business Administration, Customs Management, Economics;
- Must have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office packages;
- Must be able to work independently and remotely. Must possess own computer;
- Language: English and Spanish written and oral (fluent);
- Must have the legal status to live and work in Costa Rica.

Learning and development opportunities:
This is an internship and, as such, it will be designed around the individual’s desire to learn and develop. It will offer the right candidate the opportunity to understand how a diplomatic mission operates and see the type of work we do.
Working patterns:
Line managers will set the working pattern in agreement with the intern. The maximum hours worked per week are 24 hours for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of an additional 3 months where appropriate. The Embassy will provide the Intern with a subsidy of $300 per month.
