Overview

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the Trade and Investment Promotion and Negotiation organisation for the UK. We promote British trade and investment across the world, we support UK businesses overseas and attract foreign investment to our shores. We have 3,000 staff across the globe in over 100 countries.  

DIT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. The Latin American and the Caribbean (LATAC) Region is led from São Paulo. The Network is represented in 20 Posts with a team of over 150.

The LATAC Enquiry Hub is the Region’s universal entry point for UK businesses. We are currently looking to recruit an Advisor that will participate in the day-to-day operations and will have a tangible and effective input into the growth of the Enquiry Hub. This role will connect teams in the UK, sector specialists and colleagues across LATAC with the core aim to help UK firms win and expand their business in the region, with a particular emphasis on Andean markets. This individual will be experienced, high performing, delivery focused that can hit the ground running.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • The Job Holder will actively contribute to the day-to-day operations of DIT LATAC’s Enquiry Hub.  Adopting an effective relationship management and a consultative approach to working with UK businesses.
  • Working alongside DIT and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) colleagues across the LATAC region, the Job Holder will be responsible for supporting UK companies currently in the market or looking to enter the market: anticipating opportunities and challenges.
  • Help build a pipeline of UK companies to operate in LATAC to support the UK based LATAC Business Specialist and a pipeline of LATAC companies to support the region’s strategic objectives.
  • Act as an advocate and expert for the Enquiry Hub – externally and internally and embed the Hub into the DIT LATAC team’s ways of working.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationship with UK DIT and other HMG colleagues to leverage appropriate support to help companies.
  • Commission, create and evaluate market research (whether by sector, country or region), documentation and data to support UK businesses and internal activities. The Job Holder needs to demonstrate strong information literacy skills.
  • Actively deliver and contribute meaningfully to the LATAC Enquiry Hub promotional strategy
  • Support in the planning, development and implementation of the EISS model.
  • Play a proactive role in pan-regional initiatives such as events, market intelligence and chargeable services as required.
  • Actively support wider Embassy initiatives as needed, including but not limited to, Crisis Work and other 1HMG tasks and activities.
  • Be an active member of the regional DIT LATAC and local Colombia team. 

 

Language requirements: Language: Spanish (native). English (Desirable C1 certified with IELTS or TOEFL).

Essential on arrival:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or other relevant professional qualification or experience
  • At least two years’ experience working in the trade and investment field
  • Experience of working with commercially focused teams across the LATAC region
  • Experience of customer relationship management
  • Understand challenges facing UK businesses exporting to the region
  • Experience of delivering commercial outcomes for government
  • Proven track record of cross-team collaboration
  • A positive, resilient, flexible and adaptable “can-do” attitude that can see way through challenges
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organised.

*Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia. 

  • A knowledge of business practices and trends across LATAC
  • Understanding of the UK offer, DIT, the Enquiry Hub and EISS
  • Research skills for compiling rigorous and user-friendly market reports.
  • Proficiency in the Portuguese language
