The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Local Presidency Support Officer.
The main purpose of this job is to support the delivery of the UK’s 2021 G7 Presidency by British Embassy Kyiv, by delivering a range of communications, administrative/logistical and policy reporting tasks.
This is an exciting opportunity for a short-term experience of working in an embassy on a range of communications, policy and administrative tasks – which will give the jobholder a broad insight into frontline international relations work.
As G7 President the UK will chair the local G7 Ambassadors’ Reform Group, which plays an active role in supporting Ukraine in developing and implementing reforms that support Ukraine’s development and the rule of law.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Public relations: production, translation and publication of social and traditional media updates, as well as providing media summaries for the Embassy, on behalf of the communications team;
- Meeting coordination: assisting the Ambassador’s office and policy delivery team in securing meetings for the G7 group with Ukrainian government and non-government actors, agreeing the practical and logistical arrangements for these meetings and communicating them to the wider Embassy and the UK’s G7 partners;
- Events management: in support of the Ambassador’s office, Ambassador’s Residence staff and policy delivery team, organising online and Covid-secure offline events in support of the G7 Presidency, and providing occasional translation services.
- Reporting: following Ukraine’s progress in key reform spheres and providing written and verbal reporting to policy delivery team colleagues to enable them to shape the agenda for meetings.
- Fluent level of Ukrainian and English;
- IT literacy;
- Experience in communications, including preferably social media publishing;
- Experience of working internationally;
- High degree of professionalism and discretion in interacting with senior British and Ukrainian government officials;
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team;
- Good decision-making skills;
- Resilient and able to work with tight deadlines.

This is a fixed-term contract of 14 months for 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch.
The start date mentioned in the advert is just an expected start date. The appointment can start earlier or later depending on several factors. Despite that fact, the overall contract is expected to end at the end of January 2022.
Due to the fast-paced nature of work related to G7, the 40 hours per week worked will not always correspond with the Embassy opening hours of 9am–5pm. The job-holder will be expected to work outside these hours on occasion to enable the Embassy to respond appropriately to developments, with time off in lieu granted.
The British Embassy in Kyiv is committed to providing excellent training including, but not limited to, access to the UK’s Diplomatic Academy. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the role of an Embassy and international relations / diplomacy in Ukraine.
