Communications, Press and Media

Main purpose of job:

Supporting the promotion of the UK as an excellent partner for Colombia, working proactively in the Press and Public Affairs team to promote the UK profile, projects and initiative in Colombian across the transmedia strategy focused on digital channels.

The jobholder will lead the digital strategy for the embassy according to the UK’s priorities and embassy’s activities in Colombia, increasing their impact and promotion.

Roles and responsibilities/what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

Strategic and Digital Communications 

  • Lead the digital strategy according to the UK government priorities in Colombia aligned with the British Embassy’s general communications strategy.

  • Improve the embassy’s digital footprint and impact on social networks through increasing number of followers, influencers, and creative campaigns.

  • Support the embassy’s communications work on global campaigns. Design and implement follow-up reports, creating digital and media material.

  • Lead the interaction with the Comms Champions from all sections across the Embassy to engage them for media and digital campaigns to highlight the UK profile in Colombia.

  • Improve execution of regular digital and media products and creative implementation of new communications materials.

  • Support the head of press to build and maintain a strong network of influencers, opinion leaders and journalists in the Colombian and UK media to increase the impact of the embassy’s communications.

  • Deputise for the Head of Press in specific initiatives regarding with the digital marketing campaigns, media and press matters when the latter is out of the office or on leave.

  • Promote the British Embassy’s activities in Colombia through the *FCDO social media channels across the network.

Administrative tasks as required.

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

Essential on arrival:

  • Journalism, media, audio-visual or communications Degree (or equivalent).
  • 2-3 years of experience in media, digital communications and social media management.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in external communications strategies.
  • Fluent writing skills in English and Spanish.
  • Proven track record of excellent team work and communications skills.
  • Audio-visual edition and design skills (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite management)

Language requirements:

Language: English and Spanish  

Level of language required: at least B2 level certified in English (or equivalent) and native Spanish.

Desirable:  

  • Additional courses on communications and/or digital marketing.
  • Google analytics experience.
  • Networking in national media outlets, influencers and digital environment.
