Main purpose of job:

The Policy, Projects and Communication (PPC) section is responsible for promoting links between the UK and the Philippines. It manages bilateral government co-operation, explains the British position on international issues, and builds support for UK policies and views.

The successful candidate will work as part of the British Embassy’s Policy, Projects and Strategic Communications (PPC) section to help raise the profile of the United Kingdom in the Philippines through the effective use of digital and multimedia tools.  The candidate must have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and an active interest in, and understanding of, the internet and digital media, as well as Philippine and global current affairs. This role might require some extended hours, so applicants should have an interest in following digital channels.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Effectively manage the British Embassy’s digital platforms – Gov.UK website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; coordinate with policy officers to help plan and implement innovative Embassy digital campaigns and communication plans; maintain a high quality of digital output in the face of conflicting demands and priorities.
  • Be an active part of the communications team by contributing to their wider work, e.g. helping on events, campaigns and visits, covering for the Public Diplomacy Manager when necessary and working on internal comms and corporate objectives.
  • Be part of the Embassy crisis preparation team, undergoing learning and practice of how to conduct embassy communications, in particular digital comms, in a crisis situation (e.g. a political situation, or an event that impacts a lot of British nationals) or how to assist other teams in the embassy who are in crisis mode.
  • Lead the embassy’s digital communications campaigns on relevant platforms.
  • Manage the schedule of a weeekend cover team for social media monitoring.
  • Regularly monitor local media coverage of the UK as well as social media trends.
  • Provide support to the PPC team, such as assisting with arranging or preparing for visits or events, procurement, or planning team activities.

  • A passion for digital media, preferably with extensive experience in digital content creation social community management and social listening, and graphic design;
  • Adept in digital photography, videography, and video editing. Able to produce video concepts, storyboards, and executions for digital campaigns;
  • Imaginative and creative with the use of search engines, social media and other web-based platforms;
  • Ability to contribute to planning and implementing social media campaigns and weekly digital content. Liaise, build, and maintain strong relationships with relevant and/or key social media influencers’.
  • Has an understanding of social media analytics and is able to produce simple analytics and digital campaign evaluations;
  • Confidence to speak with senior members of the Government, FCDO and others;
  • Highly organised, with an eye for detail; able to follow set procedures;
  • Able to take instruction, and at all times, work effectively, productively and at times, unsupervised;
  • Work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines, prioritising workloads as necessary;
  • Knowledgeable of MS Office, Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects.

  • Skills in graphic design and an understanding of the latest trends in the digital landscape.

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package, 36-hour work week, guaranteed 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on Pro-rata basis if joined after 1 January), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year.
