The British Embassy in Sofia is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for 1 full time Political Intern and 1 full time Public Diplomacy Intern.
They will work alongside the Political Section or the Campaigns and Prosperity team of the embassy on ongoing projects, related to future UK-Bulgarian bilateral relations and global UK priorities, following developments in key policy areas and supporting communication activities, public engagement and campaigns.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Political Section (Political Intern):

Future relations/Economy:Research and drafting of background documents that help the team develop the future UK-Bulgaria relationship, following the UK’s departure from the EU; following and reporting relevant developments in the Bulgarian economy – 50%

Internal Politics: Research and development of background documents that help the team to understand Bulgaria and its politics; participation in meetings and conferences with Bulgarian stakeholders – 20%

Projects: Secretary of the Embassy’s Programme Management Board; keeping track of project objectives and spend; reporting to London – 10%

Migration: Analysis of and reporting on the migration situation – 10%
-
Supporting the Political Team: Work on ad-hoc work requests from across the team (e.g. arranging meetings and visits, translating newspaper articles, mini research projects) – 5%

Cross-Embassy role: Representing the Political Team across the Embassy, including at meetings – 5%
Campaigns and Prosperity Team (Public Diplomacy Intern):

Support Embassy Press Officer to carry out the Embassy online and media activity – 30%

Support in the delivery of public diplomacy campaigns – 30 %

Draft and upload posts for the Embassy social media channels -15%

Assist in organising public diplomacy events and liaise with commercial partners, government and civil society -15%

Assist other activities across strategic campaigns run by the Embassy -10%

Fluent level of written and spoken English and Bulgarian;
-
Only students in their last year of studies and recent graduates will be considered for this position;

Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel;

Good communication and organisational skills;

Enthusiastic, energetic and highly creative team player;

Knowledge of and interest in Bulgarian politics;

Good analytical and research skills;

Ability to work well independently.
- For Public Diplomacy Intern only: Use of social media (Facebook, Twitter) and/or experience managing a blog/website.
For Public Diplomacy Intern only:

These are full-time and temporary internship positions of 9 months. Both starting in November 2020.
The successful candidate will receive a monthly salary of BGN 610 gross as well as BGN 50 net transport allowance per month throughout the duration of the internship.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Bulgaria may apply, including all EU/EEA citizens and the family members of EU/EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Bulgaria.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Bulgarian employment law.
Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Bulgaria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
