Main purpose of job:
The jobholder will support the whole Political Section of the British Embassy, which covers a wide range of issues, including human rights, gender, rule of law and domestic politics. In particular, the jobholder will assist Visits teams and the teams working on gender, migration and modern slavery portfolios. This will involve working with a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society organisations, academics and Mexican Government officials, to organise meetings, generate ideas for collaboration and run projects. He or she will also support the organisation of senior visits, including events and virtual visits.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
• Liaise with civil society organisations and Mexican Government Departments to set up meetings and invite contacts to events.
• Support the implementation of projects by organising activities and reporting on events.
• Visit management: Support the Visits and Political Officer during the preparation and delivery of senior visits
• Communicate with Mexican government departments, businesses, and other NGOs and with UK stakeholders to deliver successful visits and political work.
• Research and support for producing briefings about migration, modern slavery, gender equality, etc.
• Support the team with planning and organising official luncheons, dinners and social events, including virtual events hosted by the embassy.
• Performing clerical duties: Taking memos, maintaining files, organising, sorting, and creating PowerPoint presentations.
• Support the overall delivery of policy on human rights and gender equality.
The role will involve working with numerous different teams across the Section and the Embassy. The successful candidate will need to work flexibly across areas to provide support.
All employees in the Embassy network are expected to contribute to the corporate activity of the organisation.
Essential on arrival:
– Graduate student pursuing a degree in International Relations, or a related field– or a recent graduate of such a program.
– Be familiar with and have an interest in key international policy issues and diplomacy.
– Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Spanish.
– Ability to provide information to stakeholders in an understandable format.
– Organisation and time management skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
– Capacity for flexibility and willingness to work to meet deadlines.
– Good team skills – being able to liaise with people over requirements and ask for help where stuck, but also able to work independently.
Physical Requirements:
– Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
– Setting up exhibitions and events may be physically demanding.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Spanish
Level of language required: Fluent in English (written and spoken). This will be tested during the interview process.
Desirable:
– Experience working in an international office environment (preferably dealing with VIPs)
– An understanding of webinar technology or the ability to learn
– Strong interest in UK/MX relations.
– Previous experience in event planning, delivering visits or executive assistance.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
