Main purpose of job
To work in the embassy events and communications section under the supervision of the Communications & Events Officer, supporting the Head of Press Section to promote the UK as an excellent political and commercial partner for Colombia, working proactively to promote the British Embassy activities and initiatives across all policy areas. The jobholder will assist the Events Coordinator organising internal and external events, including the annual Queen’s Birthday Party in June as well as supporting the Press and Media activities.
Roles and responsibilities
Press & Internal Communications (60%)
- Design and production of multiplatform materials, such as infographics, videos, gifs, internal communications material, etc.
- Creation of multimedia material (videos, infographics, e-cards, etc.) required by anyone in the office.
- Journalistic coverage (photography, video-recording and interviewing) during external events.
- Production of internal newsletter.
- Be an active part of the Embassy´s digital and comms Embassy´s campaigns.
- Reporting media coverage after each event or official visit.
- Daily monitoring of national media.
- Management of media databases
- Translation of documents when required.
- Keep record and renew every subscription to newspapers and magazines of the Press Team and some Heads of Section under the Comms & Events Officer guidance.
- Complete administrative tasks as required.
Events (40%)
- Support the Comms & Events Officer with the arrangement of logistics and provision of services (sometimes internally and sometimes with external providers) for Embassy events. (For instance, accommodation, transport, catering, audio visual equipment, carrying material, stocktaking and special requirements).
- Good relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders.
- In liaison with the Events Coordinator, to update, maintain and organize Embassy Events Planner and keep tracking of the Residence Events Planner.
- Keep tracking of Embassy Events Invitations and invitees lists.
- Maintain a database of service providers.
- Administrate the Press Storage Room, keeping it organized, clean and tidy with an updated inventory.
Language requirements
Language: Spanish and English.
Level of language required: Spanish (native), English (B2 certified with IELTS or TOEFL).
- Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel-Word-Power Point)
- Knowledge of world affairs.
- Graphic design skills (adobe creative cloud)
Must have the legal right to work in Colombia.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Working patterns
Full time position. Evening and weekends work may be required to support the events.
Working hours: Mondays to Thursdays 8:30 am to 17:00
Fridays 8:30 to 13:30
