The British High Commission (BHC) in Malta is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a dedicated Residence and Events Manager.

The main purpose of this role is to: manage the operation of The British High Commissioner’s Residence. Planning, organising and delivering of events for The British High Commissioner and The British High Commission. Management of the Residence, including cleaning staff and works. Food Prep and cooking of light meals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Events Management for the High Commission ranging from tea for two to receptions of 100+ to include full organisation of the event;
  • Preparation of Guest lists and issuing of Invitations in liaison with the High Commissioner’s Personal Assistant;
  • Engagement with Suppliers, Casual Staff and High Commission staff to ensure all events run smoothly;
  • Procurement of Supplies and Services in line with FCDO procurement practices;
  • Management of 2 housemaids;
  • Close cooperation with PA & High Commissioner on HC’s diary and plans;
  • Oversight of the Residence building to include Health & Safety, Maintenance and Contractor supervision;
  • Reporting maintenance issues to the High Commission Estate team and follow up on actions required;
  • Preparation for and welcoming of Visitors to the High Commissioner’s Residence;
  • Management and recording of Inventories, Stocks and Stores;
  • Supervision of any weekend and evening events;
  • Supervision of contractors;
  • Cooking and preparation of light meals at the Residence.

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*);
  • Experience of event and team management;
  • Knowledge and/or experience with account/budget management;
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently;
  • Strong problem solving skills using own judgement;
  • Strong IT skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook;

  • Previous Line Management experience;
  • Previous cooking experience;
  • Driver’s Licence (Category ‘B’);
  • Food Handling Licence;
  • Maltese Language.

This is a part-time of 25 hours/week, 12 months renewable contract.

The part-time hours will be agreed with the line manager.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
