Residence Coordinator
The British Embassy in Muscat invites applications for the position Residence Manager and Corporate Services Officer grade A2 (L) to start as soon as possible.
Main Purpose of the Job:
The successful candidate will manage the Ambassador’s Residence, the Embassy’s flagship venue for representational functions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of Residence and Grounds
- Act as the customer interface between the Residence Occupants and the Residence Staff and wider Corporate Services team to ensure the general appearance and upkeep of the Residence, rigorous attention to UK standards and management of the day-to-day operation of the Residence staff shift system.
- Ensure accommodation is properly prepared for official guests, and ensure a high standard of customer service during their stay.
- Manage the Residence Staff in accordance with best practice and the administration that comes with that (e.g. ensuring that leave etc. is properly managed and recorded on HR systems)
Functions
- Prepare the format and organizational aspects ahead of time and assist the Personal Assistant to Her Majesty’s Ambassador in preparation and management of guest lists, entertainment forward look, sending of invitations, and managing the Ambassador’s contacts list. If required, be on hand at the start of large dinners and other official events.
- Assist with large-scale events such as the Queen’s Birthday Party, Remembrance Day and the annual Carols event.
- Lead on the organisation and delivery of income generation events. To include preparing quotations for events, raising invoices for external parties, liaising with event organisers and working with other Embassy departments to ensure all event requirements are met
Administration
- Manage Residence inventories and stocks.
- Hold the cash imprest for the Residence and account for all spend for this and any government Procurement Cards in accordance with Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office’s rules.
Social Secretary Support
- Working with Personal Assistant to Her Majesty’s Ambassador on invitations/events including administration support – maintaining database of guests/menus/dietary preferences and relevant information relating to hosting of successful events at HMA Residence.
- In addition, similar support to Deputy Head of Mission where appropriate.
Corporate Services Support
- As a member of the wider corporate services team the role might be asked to lead or support wider corporate service projects or lead on discrete tasks.
Line Management
- Manage three (3) residence staff.
The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, carry out additional duties according to business needs.

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including a non-negotiable salary of 818.40 Omani Riyals per month inclusive of all allowances; and use of on-site recreational facilities (including a swimming pool and social club).
The contract will be for full-time employment, on a permanent basis.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Conditioned working hours are 35 hours per week. Standard working hours are 09:00 – 16:00, Sunday to Thursday with some flexibility if there are functions. The Embassy supports and promotes flexible working as a crucial part of our inclusive offering.
There is a holiday entitlement of 30 days per year (pro-rated) following successful completion of a 3-month probation period. Holidays that have already been booked will be honoured. There are also national holidays determined annually by the Embassy, which usually total 14 days per year.
The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and we offer a range of opportunities for professional and personal development, with in-house and e-learning courses.
Eligibility:
- The successful candidate must hold or must be able to secure a local work permit in Muscat.
- The British Embassy provides visa Sponsorship. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
