Main purpose of job:
To actively contribute to the British Embassy in Mexico City’s strategy of supporting UK companies in the Renewables sector to enter the Mexican market.
This will include working with UK exporters and investors in the sector to deliver an increase in trade and investment, and collaborating across a virtual team within the Embassy (of policy, programme and commercial colleagues) as part of a cohesive UK strategy.
You will develop excellent relationships with UK and Mexican companies, and contribute to the design and delivery of an impactful programme of activities, focused on developing a robust pipeline of UK exports and investment. You will seek new opportunities throughout the supply chain, support UK companies to overcome market access barriers, and promote Mexico as a destination for UK companies.
The Department for International Trade (DIT) works with UK businesses to support UK exports and bilateral investment in Mexico. Headquartered in Mexico City, DIT Mexico works across 10 priority sectors, with regional offices in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

The UK’s Department for International Trade in Mexico is recruiting for the position of Senior Energy Trade Officer, Renewables, to contribute to this ambition.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on improving bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Mexico, especially through increasing UK exports.
This role will require developing a network of contacts that will allow you to identify new commercial opportunities as they arise, understanding procurement and supply chain requirements, and discussing potential opportunities for UK companies You will need strong communication and organisational skills as well as a high level of emotional intelligence that will allow you to pitch approaches appropriately. You will often be in contact with ministers and senior level management in companies, so resilience and professionalism are essential.
You will work closely with the Head of Energy in Mexico and Energy colleagues across the region, and be supported by an Energy Trade Assistant in Mexico City. In addition, working closely with other parts of the British Embassy, our Mexican regional offices and government contacts in the UK make being able to collaborate and partner an essential skill.
This position suits an energetic, motivated self-starter with an ability to chart their course with little oversight. It will require a positive and proactive attitude that thinks in terms of unlocking opportunities for UK companies in Mexico.
Key responsibilities:
- Proactively source and strengthen a pipeline of UK opportunities in Renewables (considering the UK’s position on energy transition and energy integration), gathering market intelligence and developing relationships with key stakeholders in the public and private sector to promote UK expertise
Develop and deliver a programme of activity to support UK Renewables companies to do more, and higher value business in Mexico, including high-level visits, trade missions, and account management - Working with UK companies to overcome market access barriers, leveraging relationships with federal, state, and municipal government and regulators in conjuction with Embassy Trade Policy colleagues
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the Embassy Energy Virtual Team and the Strategic Partnership Programme (high level account management), as well as working with the Energy sector team in London to promote business opportunities to UK industry
- Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to promote UK capabilities in the sector
- Deliver work in line with Embassy Values (Honesty, Professionalism, Inclusion & Respect)
- Contribute to the corporate objectives of the Embassy
Language: English and Spanish
Level of language required: Fluent written and spoken
+3 years’ experience or knowledge of Renewables Sector, Trade and Investment experience; project management; account management; excellent stakeholder management skills.
