Main purpose of job:

The British High Commission in Singapore is part of a worldwide network of 230 United Kingdom overseas missions, representing British security, prosperity and consular interests abroad. We are currently looking to recruit a Driver for our Defence section. The successful candidate will work closely with the two other Drivers in the High Commission team, as well as with the Transport Manager.

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. Driving the Defence Section car for the Defence Attaché and his team. Providing reliable, safe and well planned services with a focus on customer service. Daily review of transport bookings and strict adherence to the High Commission’s Transport Policy.
  2. Providing driving support for visitors to the British High Commission including being actively involved in the planning of routes, liaising with key visit stakeholders and being able to work in fast paced and ambiguous conditions during the visit.
  3. Weekly cleaning of all British High Commission cars, including additional cleaning prior to major visits.
  4. Sending vehicles for timely and regular servicing & LTA inspections as required, with escalations to the Transport Manager.  Monitoring of deadlines for Road Tax and Insurance payments including the provision of quotations to the Transport Manager.
  5. Processing all required payments and receipts for ERP and Shell cards in consultation on a weekly basis.
  6. Providing adhoc support to other teams in the British High Commission as and when required.

The successful candidate must have:

  • A valid Class 3 driving license with no points deducted and no serious traffic offenses on their record
  • Excellent knowledge of the road network and traffic system in Singapore
  • A good understanding of the Highway Code
  • Previous experience as a limousine or private driver is an advantage
  • A basic understanding of Microsoft Office (e.g. to check diaries)
  • Able to effectively communicate in English

They will be well presented, physically fit, and able to work under pressure and with staff of all levels of seniority. We are looking for someone with a flexible approach to working hours as overtime and work on weekends are occasionally required.

  • Previous experience in an Embassy or Government environment

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary of SGD 2,073 per month and annual wage supplement [an additional 2 months’ salary paid out in December each year], 23-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata and insurance plan.

Due to the Government of Singapore’s measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including safe distancing and travel restrictions, we are only able to accept applications from those currently resident in Singapore.

Normal working hours are 44 per week: 7.30am to 5.15pm from Monday to Friday. Beyond these hours overtime rates are paid.

All new hires undertake a workplace induction and there are a number of mandatory e-learning courses that must be completed in order to pass probation.

In addition to the duties which this job normally entails, you may from time to time be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the High Commission, including playing a part in the corporate life of the mission and supporting any crisis response.
