Driver / Messenger

The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Driver for a fixed-term contract of two (2) years.

The jobholder will be part of a Transport Team, maintaining a high standard of the driving skills and punctuality to ensure the safety of passengers at all times. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsibility to look after operational transport requirements with flexibility in timings.
  • Drive for other staff as and when required for meetings and functions safely and on time.
  • Ensure section vehicles are kept in a clean and serviceable condition. Responsible for the safety of the vehicle at all times.
  • Work with a team of Embassy drivers.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.

  • Managing a Quality Service – Working to improve the quality of service, taking account of customer needs and requirements in the work area. Effectively organising time and activities to deliver a high quality and efficient service.
  • Collaborating and Partnering – Working with others and having effective working relationships with people in the workplace. To get the job done, it requires working collaboratively, sharing information, and building supportive, responsive relationships with co-workers and teams.
  • Delivering at Pace – Focusing on delivering timely performance with energy and taking responsibility for own actions. Working to agreed goals and activities and dealing well with setbacks.

  • High standard of driving skills. Must have a Saudi driving license and good local knowledge of locations in and out of Riyadh.
  • Good in English, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
  • Sound interpersonal skills. Demonstrates courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff and other stakeholders. Able to present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
  • Good organisational skills and flexibility to manage and prioritise tasks.
  • Team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Good IT and computer skills. Knowledge in using MS Office applications.
  • Able to work evenings (15:00-22:00) and on weekends.

  • Previous experience of driving for an embassy/ foreign diplomatic mission.
  • Knowledge of driving to other cities in Saudi Arabia.
  • Arabic language skills.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permit or transferable iqama. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy. 

 

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus – SAR 3,900.51
  • Housing Allowance – SAR 975.13 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance – SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

 

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week.

The jobholder should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and will involve working out of hours (evening and weekend).

 

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
