The British Embassy in Poland is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Trade Adviser to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

DIT Europe is led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner Europe, who oversees teams in 32 markets, helping UK-based businesses to export to Europe and encouraging the best European businesses to invest in the UK.

DIT promotes British businesses worldwide. Building the global appetite for British goods and services DIT works with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets making sure that companies in the UK can export their goods to the wider world.

The jobholder will join the DIT Team in Warsaw to provide market research, market entry and promotional activities to small and medium-sized British companies interested in exporting to Poland.

Working closely with a Senior Trade Adviser and the wider DIT team, the successful candidate will be expected to handle queries as well as proactively track export opportunities and continuously develop the network of local and UK-based contacts with a view of generating around 20 successful exporting projects per year.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Senior Trade Adviser with helping UK companies enter the Polish market;
  • Supporting UK companies to find high value business opportunities and partners in Poland;
  • Developing relations with local partners and UK companies already present in the Polish market;
  • Conducting market research, including on a chargeable basis and managing relevant systems to ensure the commissioned work is delivered on schedule;
  • Developing activities in the food, drink and retail, including events;
  • Helping the wider DIT team in administrative and organisational work, data recording, regular contact with companies; events and contacts database management with a view to supporting the team`s prosperity and high value activities;
  • Most detailed export support work is a paid service, so you will have to administer the systems that commissions paid enquiry work and ensure that reports and completed on time.

  • Fluency in Polish and English (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*);
  • Experience working with stakeholders and customers;
  • Working cooperatively with others and building relation;
  • Experience of working autonomously, as well as being part of an international team;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet. Experience with databases preferred;
  • A college / university level degree.

  • 1 year of commercial experience; 
  • Experience delivering events;
  • Experience in business development;
  • Experience in food and drink and retail sectors.

This is a full-time fixed-term position of 5 days (37.5 net per week) until 31 December 2021.

The gross salary for this position is PLN 6,630 gross per month. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 20 or 26 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Polish / UK public holidays per year.

Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by the local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to the Polish references check and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months.

Candidates must have pre-existing right to live and work in Poland for the duration of the job offer in order to apply. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Warsaw are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to Polish employment law.

Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Poland and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.

Working patterns

BE Warsaw has a strong commitment to work/life balance. Office hours are 8:30 – 16:30, staff are encouraged to leave on time. Flexi-hours are also possible within the Embassy building’s opening hours (0800-1800).

We have mobile technology and most staff in the team work from home one day a week in normal circumstances.
