Main Purpose of the Job
The British Consulate in Atlanta is seeking a qualified Trade and Investment Officer (TIO) for the Creative, Media and Sports Economy (CMS) industries. Focusing on the Southeast U.S. (particular emphasis on Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and North Carolina), the TIO will have responsibility for identifying, generating and managing projects and relationships that help drive transatlantic trade and investment across the following key subsectors: film / TV production and content distribution, gaming, marketing / advertising, immersive / the experience economy, music, and the sports economy. Reporting to the Regional Director in Atlanta, the TIO will proactively identify export opportunities in the Southeast U.S. for market-ready UK companies, providing strategic advice and B2B connections to help secure partnerships and deals, offer guidance on establishing U.S. operations, and lobbying support to counter market access barriers.
The TIO will also work with mid to large-cap companies and high-growth CMS startups from the Southeast U.S. to support their entry into, and strategic growth in the UK, bringing R&D and other high-value jobs to the market. Ideal candidates will have experience in the creative/media or sports economy sectors, be highly skilled in building senior level client relationships and managing a variety of projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment. S/he will have exceptional relationship management skills, develop a wide network of stakeholders and partners to help him/her produce results, and be able to analyse emerging market trends in order to respond to new opportunities.
The candidate for this role can be based either in Atlanta or Miami.
About the Department for International Trade in North America
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government department charged with growing UK and global prosperity by promoting transatlantic trade and investment, and championing free trade. Within British Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates across North America, the Department for International Trade has 150+ members of staff spread across 14 locations, forming a dynamic team that focuses on various sectors including advanced engineering, technology, financial services, life sciences, food & drink, retail and energy & environment.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
This role is responsible for delivering against an aggressive set of annual trade and investment targets, as
well as the following duties;
- Forge strong relationships with business leaders (start-ups through to Fortune 500), Corporate
VC/finance community, accelerators, trade associations, and interlocutors both in the US and
UK. - Provide a comprehensive account management service to key US prospects in the
aforementioned CMS sub-sectors looking to set up operations in the UK; and support US
companies already active in the UK market to grow their footprint. - Successfully build and manage a pipeline of knowledge-driven projects that have the potential
to bring high-value jobs and R&D to the UK. - Develop and implement high impact, targeted marketing programs and events in conjunction
with stakeholder partners to build DIT brand awareness, promote key messaging, and
showcase UK competitiveness in the CMS industries. - Assist high-growth and innovative UK SMEs and established British businesses to develop US
market entry strategies and / or grow US market share; and support established British
companies in-market to address any concerns around US trade policy or market access
barriers. - Monitor market trends and contribute to US-wide, sector-focused strategic planning.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact programming, including
developing and hosting round-tables, seminars and trade missions, and contributing to VIP visit
programs with the aim of driving export growth. - Represent DIT and the British Consulate at external functions, including occasional speaking
engagements. - Assist with consular support services in times of crisis.
- Proactively contribute to cross-team activities, programs and support a collaborative and
transparent workplace.
Essential on arrival:
- Relevant professional experience demonstrating skill and knowledge required for the role.
- Knowledge of CMS industries and trends in the Southeast U.S. region.
- Experience / familiarity of the UK’s business environment.
- Skill in building relationships and developing projects through excellent client management.
- Strong emotional intelligence, showing ability to work calmly to deadlines and manage work which
requires a high degree of collaboration. - A demonstrable track record of achievement in meeting personal goals.
- Experience of utilising a variety of technology platforms for business development and campaign marketing
purposes. - Strong networking skills.
- Strong written and oral communication (including presentation) skills.
- Driving license and ability to travel both locally and internationally.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the nuances of operating within public versus private sector operations.
- Sound knowledge of the UK’s investment proposition and regional strengths across the CMS industries.

Working patterns:
- Flex hours offered around the core hours of 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
