Main purpose of job:
To support the delivery of UK policy objectives on trade policy in the United States. This will involve helping UK policy makers understand US trade priorities, supporting the delivery of incoming visits by officials and Ministers, reporting on trade events in the active trade community in DC and, where required, providing administrative support to the trade team.
Roles and responsibilities :
This job sits within a team at the heart of the UK’s trade relationship with the United States, with a goal that includes building the UK-US trade relationship, including through a UK-US Free Trade Agreement. The trade policy team in the Embassy has a major role in supporting UK policy development and negotiations. The post holder for this job plays an important role in facilitating the Embassy’s input to this.
The successful candidate will report to a C4 trade adviser and work alongside the rest of the Trade Policy team in DC and across the US network. The job requires cooperation with several different teams across the Embassy and the Department for International Trade.
This is an exciting role with lots of potential. We will be looking to discuss a specific portfolio with the successful candidate, but work of the team includes:
· Attending and reporting on Congressional hearings, briefings and trade-related events (for example at think-tanks).
· Briefing seniors and reporting on US trade developments in bilateral and global trade. This could include for example the US, Canada, Mexico relationship, US trade with Asia, supply chain resilience, and sectoral trade issues.
· Engaging closely with colleagues in London and across the Embassy to facilitate visits to the US by UK Ministers and officials.
· Working closely with a country-wide network of trade attaches on both State and Federal-level trade issues

Essential on arrival: A minimum of two years of commercial, NGO or government work experience is required.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
Excellent computer skills & communication skills.
Desirable:
Knowledge of some or all of the following: trade policy; agriculture policy; business policy; Congress and the Administration; and the US legislative/regulatory process.
