Main purpose of job:
To provide analytical support to the Embassy trade policy team (D6 Trade Policy Director, C4 Economic and Trade Policy Officer and C4 Agritech Attaché) at a time of increasing interest in Mercosur and in achieving market access wins.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Intern’s main tasks will include:
- Keeping the UK Government’s Digital Market Access Barrier tool updated with information on Argentina, given the wide range of market access barriers present.
- Provide specific analytical support on the impact of identified trade barriers, including research to identify previously unknown barriers and action plans for removal.
- Update and maintain the Embassy statistical resources to provide evidence base for trade policy objectives.
- Analytical support to Montevideo and Asuncion Embassies, where required.
- Logistical support for senior level visits, regulatory cooperation campaigns and engagement with key stakeholders, including through setting agendas, producing supporting papers and general administrative tasks.
- Must be enrolled in a university program
- Basic understanding of trade and economic policy
- Data analytics
- Language: English, Spanish
- Level of language required: Operational fluency in both
- Familiarity with Mercosur trading environment questions and WTO/multi-lateral trading system
- Contacts, academic or otherwise, within trade policy
- Project management

Working patterns:
Standard working hours: 20 hours per week (maximum 4 hours per day) according to Internship Regulation in Argentina.

Note: Due to COVID restrictions, Embassy staff are currently working from home, but the policy may change (following local authorities and FCDO guidance) in the coming weeks / months.

Contract end date: 30 April 2022; role is fixed-term with the possibility of renewal thereafter.

According to Internship Regulation in Argentina, only candidates that finish their studies once the internship contract expires will be eligible for the position (Law 26427).
