The Department for International Trade (DIT) at the British Embassy, Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Trade Service Unit Assistant, Grade – A2 (L).

 

Main Purpose of the job:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the Trade and Investment arm for the UK. We promote British trade and investment across the world, support UK business overseas and attract foreign investment to our shores. We have over 3,000 staff across the globe in over 100 countries.

DIT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. The Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MEAP) region is led from Dubai and represents 12 markets with a team of some 120 staff.

The MEAP Trade Service Unit is MEAP’s universal entry point for UK business in the region. We are now looking to recruit a trade assistant who will manage the newly formed sub Hub for the DIT Jordan team. The purpose of the job is to help UK SME’s enter the Jordan market and win business.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Director of DIT Jordan will support the running of the MEAP Hub in Dubai by providing timely, accurate and comprehensive management information on a monthly basis in order to meet KPI’s.
  • Review and answer enquiries sent to the Jordan sub hub. Adopting an effective relationships management approach for UK SME’s.
  • Working under the supervision of the DIT Director you will be responsible for various defined tasks in support of UK companies currently in market or looking to enter the market. This could include organising visit programmes and attending either virtual or face to face briefings, trade missions and or exhibitions in Jordan.
  • Record, allocate, track trace and report all SME approaches, manage follow-up actions from enquiries and facilitate consultative client discussions with Jordan DIT colleagues and other key stakeholders in MEAP.
  • Prepare documentation and data to support internal DIT MEAP reporting tools including devising metrics and compiling reports.
  • Write viable export opportunities following guidance and best practice and upload onto the Exporting is Great website.
  • Upload relevant interactions onto Data Hub.
  • Provide ad hoc administrative support to the DIT Director and Advisers as required.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills as well as being a strong team player with partnering skills with a diverse range of customers.  This is a high-paced role and you will need to be resilient in order to deliver high standards of service in a challenging but rewarding environment.  We are looking for someone that can demonstrate:

Essential:

  • Fluent communication skills in English (both spoken and written).
  • Undergraduate and/or relevant professional or hands on trade related experience.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a customer facing and/or trade related job.
  • Track record of delivery through collaboration and partnering in complex environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable dealing with senior officials and business people.
  • Experience of data analysis and interpretation.
  • Can do attitude and resourcefulness in solving problems.
  • Strong IT skills in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.

Desirable:

  • Private sector experience.
  • Experience of working in virtual teams.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

Pay is on the Embassy A2 (L) scale, with a salary of JOD 1,145 per month. Please note that your salary will be paid gross and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities.  If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax.  Further information on this will be given to candidates at interview if necessary.

This position is offered on a full time, permanent contract.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period (as appropriate). The selected candidate will have the right to live and work in Jordan.

The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.

This role provides enormous opportunities to grow and develop given its pan MEAP role. Job holder will have access to the full suite of DIT and FCDO learning and developing opportunities including the FCDO’s Diplomatic Academy, training in the UK and will be encouraged to join DIT’s trade profession. We also provide regular in-house learning opportunities and are committed to supporting further academic opportunities.
