Main purpose of role:

The Enhanced International Support Services (EISS) – the UK’s trade support services programme – ensures the delivery of a quality service to up 5,000 small and medium sized businesses looking to export overseas each year. As part of an EISS global offer, regional hub teams are being created to guide SMEs (Small and Medium sized Enterprises) looking for services and support for their exports to APAC (Asia Pacific region). The APAC EISS Hub will cover onward referral of enquiries to over 13 markets across APAC.

Hub Managers will be one of the main points of contact in the hub and will be accountable for making informed and timely decisions on the best approach for each customer, and often will be asked to call and speak directly with senior business representatives. They will work closely with other Hub officers to ensure that data is captured and customer needs are addressed and liaise with market advisors across APAC on local service delivery as needed.

This role will require broad knowledge of the varying business opportunities and challenges across the region, and of the support that can be provided by the EISS network of market advisors and by External suppliers and experts in the Overseas Referral Network (ORN) suppliers. As Hub Managers, you will be expected to maintain a regional view and advise companies on suitable markets to consider beyond initial enquiry.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

As this is a new role to deliver a new service, roles and responsibilities may evolve and the jobholder will need to be flexible and adaptive. Below is an indication of the likely core aspects of the role.

Hub Operations

  • Review and take action on simple to complex enquiries sent to the Hub using an effective relationships management approach for UK Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).
  • Act as an advocate for the APAC EISS Hub – externally and internally and embed the Hub into the Department for International Trade APAC team’s ways of working.
  • Manage follow-up actions from enquires, including any complaints.
  • Working through hub support officers, ensure all SME approaches are allocated, tracked and reported, and manage follow-up actions from enquiries.
  • Facilitate consultative client discussions with EISS colleagues and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and potentially management to A2 support officers as the operations of the hub evolve.

Market Research, Reporting and Communications

  • Conduct market research either by sector, country or region and prepare reports that present this information in ways that are informative and engaging for businesses.
  • Analyse data on enquiries and support the hub manager in drawing out key conclusions for APAC management.
  • Work with the DIT Marketing and Communications team to create materials to promote the EISS Hub.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance to the Operations and Performance Manager as needed.

  • Strong English language reading and writing ability
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to work in a start-up work environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Experience working in a regional role, preferably in APAC is preferred.
  • Ability to deal with senior officials and business people
  • Handling data, reporting and analysis
  • Can-do attitude and resourcefulness in solving problems
  • Strong skills in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: High

  • Familiarity with UK business and UK Culture
  • Another Asia-Pacific language
  • Experience with CRM systems

This position is being advertised as a 14 months fixed term position in Ho Chi Minh (until 31 March 2023), and will be extended subject to performance and availability of funding.

Working patterns:

This role will require office based work at the Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City with little scope for remote or flexible working.
