The Department of History and Political Science at Worcester State University seeks to hire two Visiting Assistant Professors of History. The successful candidates will teach 2-3 sections of one or both of the United States History surveys per semester, as well as upper-level courses in their specialty, and should be prepared to further Worcester State’s commitment to increasing and fostering diversity in our campus community. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Instructional formats may include face-to-face classes, blended, or fully online courses. Responsibilities of the position include advising undergraduate students, departmental service, and otherwise contributing to the academic and strategic missions of the department and the university.
The first position is for American history with emphasis on Massachusetts history, economic history, the history of capitalism, and/or history of immigration. Expertise and/or experience with history pedagogy and the Massachusetts social studies curriculum frameworks is an asset, as many of our majors are also Education majors and minors seeking certification within the commonwealth.
The second position is for United States and the World, with an emphasis on public history and/or digital humanities. Possible subfields include Atlantic world, diasporic history, history of the borderlands, and/or the history of science and technology.
Job Requirements:
Ph.D. in History; the degree must have been awarded by September 1, 2021.
