The Department of History at Siena College invites applications for a one year full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position to serve as content supervisor for student teachers in the Social Studies Education program and to teach survey courses in the History department.
The field of historical study is open. The successful candidate will be fluent in current best practices in social studies education planning, delivery, and requirements, and will continually update and improve social studies education at Siena College.
The successful candidate will teach survey History courses in the college core and may have the opportunity to teach the history methodology course or classes in their area of expertise. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students on a robust social studies education track, supervising and evaluating students in the field during their teaching semester, working with cooperating Middle and High School faculty, and working closely with the College’s Education Department on administrative duties related to social studies education and accreditation. Additionally the successful candidate will foster creative and collegial connections between the College and regional middle and high schools. The home department is History, and load will include content courses in the historical field(s) of expertise and service to the department.

Job Requirements: *
A Master’s degree is required; Ph.D. in History or a Ph.D. in Social Studies Education preferred. Experience in secondary social studies education in New York State preferred. A background screening will be required.
