In a joint appointment with the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute, Jena, Germany (FLI), the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU), Germany is seeking to fill a

W3 Professorship Biochemistry of Aging (m/f/d)

at the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the next possible date.

We are searching for an internationally renowned scientist to cover a broad range of biochemical research on cellular mechanisms, including, e.g., metabolism, proteostasis, organelle function, or genome function during organism aging. The applicant should have a strong scientific background employing biochemical, metabolic, and molecular research on model organisms to analyse complex biological processes relevant to aging. The professorship is combined with leading a senior research group at FLI. The FLI provides an outstanding academic environment for research on aging as well as excellent laboratory setups and core facilities. The candidate is expected to have an outstanding publication record, a proven ability to acquire third-party funding, experience in project coordination, and leadership skills. Research on Aging is among the four research foci within the Life Science area of the FSU; the position will be integrated in the Aging Research Center Jena of the FSU. The applicant will participate in coordinated research programs comprising groups from University and from extra-University institutions in the areas of regeneration, immunology or host-microbiota interactions in the context of aging. Teaching in the B.Sc. course “Biochemistry/Molecular Biology” and the M.Sc. course “Biochemistry” at the FSU Jena amounting to 6 hours/week and semester is expected.

Conditions of employment include a doctoral degree, Habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification, as well as the ability to teach. If the successful candidate meets the legal requirements, he or she will be appointed as civil servant permanently.
