Short role description

Young European Movement UK is recruiting a dedicated, passionate and energetic pro-European political activist who wants to make their passion and political belief their job in supporting the communications, administration, funding and membership growth of YEM UK in the months to come, as well as any other area of operation. The staff member will have the unique chance to work together hand in hand on a daily basis with the (unpaid) national board of YEM UK in reviving the pro-European spirit amongst UK youth.

The European Movement UK, YEM UK´s umbrella organisation, will set-up the contract, manage the payroll and provide HR and IT support (equipment and software licences) as required, as well as office space when needed.

Specs

Job type: Full time (37.5 hours per week), 1 year contract

Closing Date: Sat 17 April 2021 – midnight

Interviews: Mon, 19 April 2021 (to be confirmed with applicant)

Start Date: as soon as possible (starting mid April)

Salary: 22.000£ per annum

Skills & Qualifications

● right to work in the UK (if not obtained already, it must be obtained quickly)

● command of the English language at native level including effective and professional texting skills (any other languages are a plus)

● command of MS Office (as well as our other applications Google Drive, Cloud Services, Slack)

● basic layouting and website design experience (block-builder system)

● experience or natural haptitute in using any of the following platforms is a plus: WordPress, Nationbuilder, Mailchimp, CiviCRM

● [desirable] graphic design skills

● [desirable] video editing skills

● [desirable] safe-guarding trained (certificate should be already obtained or by the latest so at the end of August 2021)

Experience

1) Working with Members and Volunteers

  • experience working (in a volunteer leadership position or ideally as a staff member) with a youth organisation, preferably in the European field (having worked with or managed a team of paid colleagues is considered a plus (this position might have interns and other staff added to its responsibility in the coming months) in the process)
  • having managed team(s) of volunteers from a position of leadership (paid or not), from onboarding them to making them work more independently
  • [desirable] having led or contributed to membership growth campaigns in a membership-based organisation

2) Communications & Campaigning

  • campaigning experience with regards to political topics concerning youth and / or Europe
  • experience in at least some of the following, paired with a fast ability to learn: Mailing Campaigns, Press Releases, Social Media, Event Planning, Website, Video Editing, Graphic (or Visual) Design
  • [desirable] an understanding of the way other JEF section(s) or YEM UK itself work(s)

3) Grants & Fundraising

  • being able to convince individuals and organisations to support a certain cause through their voluntary work, donations or in-kind sponsoring
  • [desirable] experience applying for and executing grant funded
  • [desirable] managed successfully or contributed to fundraising campaigns (donations-based)

Understanding of the Role

● allrounder in various skills regarding the day-to-day management of a fast growing political start-up with a long history and a bright future – with your support!

● a substantial amount of work (and ideally substantial experience) in communications in various channels and targeting 1) volunteers / members 2) local branches and partners and 3) the wider public

● an executioner and daily hand to a strategy that partly exists and partly is being created by the newly elected national board

● a profound level of initiative and creativity, that does not require hourly check-ins and instructions but works independently, whilst not taking decisions the board should take

Attitude & Personal Criteria

● A self-starter with the ability to take the initiative.

● A team player – able to assume responsibility over team members or volunteers but also accepting supervision

● Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

● An understanding of how to develop and deliver communications that work for a young audience, ideally with political messaging.

● Someone working effectively under pressure and managing competing priorities

● Commitment to pro-European values
