ABOUT THE MISSION
SI opened its mission in Bangladesh at the end of 2007, following cyclone SIDR.
Today, SI’s intervention and strategy in Bangladesh is to address the primary needs of crisis-affected people in terms of: food security, livelihood (FSL), disaster risk reduction (DRR), water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) and shelter, through an integrated disaster risk reduction approach; and by taking into account the effects of climate change; whilst working in parallel on mid-long term resilience strategies.
SI operates through 3 core stages of intervention: rapid response mechanisms in the aftermath of a disaster or emergency // early recovery & transitional periods // development.
The mission’s 4 key strategic objectives:
- Responding to the most urgent needs of conflict and disaster affected populations;
- Strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to recurrent shocks;
- Strengthening communities’ capacities to access resources;
- Reducing marginalization through inclusive programming and protection.
Today, the mission has 4 bases, and 1 coordination office in Cox’s Bazar.

ABOUT THE JOB
General objective
As part of the coordination team and reporting to the CD, and working closely with the program and support departments at coordination level, as well as the base teams, the Grant Manager is the mission’s focal point on ensuring accountability to donors. Specifically, he/she is in charge of:
- Contributing to the mission’s strategic development.
- Monitoring and identifying funding opportunities in line with SI country and global strategy.
- Overseeing compilation of timely and high quality proposals, reports and contract modification requests for submission to donors and consortium partners.
- Monitoring compliance with donor procedures and capacity building of new and existing staff on internal accountability tools and donor procedures.
- Proactively following-up on donor contractual obligations, from contracting to closing and archiving, and ensuring contractual obligations are known and understood by relevant staff/departments.
- Centralizing and preparing relevant documentation for external audits and audit report archiving.
The budget of the Bangladesh mission is: 7.4M EUR in 2020
There is 1 person to manage: the Grants Manager assistant.
Responsibilities and main activities
- Ensure internal coordination regarding reporting, proposal development, audit and any aspect regarding external compliance
- Consolidate most of external communications (including reporting, but not limited to)
- Circulate all information relevant regarding project implementation/donor compliance
- Review and elaborate all contracts with donors/NGO partners

The Bangladesh mission is in a transition period: all teams are working on the need to increase sustainability while decreasing budgets; to increase localization; and to launch more development interventions in the country.
Priorities for the first months:
- Finalize partners assessment in country: for both existing partners + for handover process at the Teknaf base level;
- Develop the DRR portfolio in collaboration with the DCD, for all the mission;
- Secure long term funding
- Support the evolution of the size of the Teknaf base
YOUR PROFILE
Education:
Master’s degree is in a relevant field (social sciences, developmental studies, etc.) or Bachelor’s degree with minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
Experience:
- At the very least 1 year of previous experience on an INGO grants manager position in an overseas INGO environment, ideally in both emergency and developmental contexts;
- Previous experience in donor relations/accountability/communications with a wide range of institutional donors
- Experience of program development and reporting in different fields: WASH, food security – livelihood and DRR is an asset.
- Experience of coordinating within large teams in multiple locations with various challenges;
- Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures;
- Experience leading communications at both internal and external level
Skills:
- An ability to reflect on and learn from own performance and the performance of the team; and to act upon that learning;
- An ability to analyze information quickly and accurately;
- A flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks with tight deadlines;
- Diplomatic and smooth leadership & communication skills
- Strong public relation skills.
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office, Excel;
- Extensive report writing in English;
- Excellent people skills, including coordination and intercultural skills.
Language:
Fluency in English (oral and written) is mandatory.
SI WILL OFFER YOU
A salaried position
According to experience, starting from EUR 1800 gross per month (+ 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly i.e. EUR 1980 gross per month) + a monthly Per Diem of USD 450.
SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.
The Grants Manager will be living in a shared guesthouse with other expatriates.
Breaks
During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every 3 months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7 working days break at 3, 6 and 9 months (with USD 850 allocated by SI).
In addition to these, SI adds 1 additional rest day per month of work, i.e. 12 additional days off for a one-year contract.
Insurance package
Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which covers all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system, including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
Living conditions
The office and guesthouse in Dhaka, Cox and Teknaf are comfortable, well located in terms of security, adapted to SI team’s needs, and assuring to international staff the minimum standard in terms of privacy and comfort. The working environment is positive and the context, differently in each locations, give different opportunities of social life, especially in Cox’s Bazar, one of the most touristic cities of the country, hosting the majority of humanitarian actors.
Please note that the Bangladesh mission is adapting its way of working and living to minimize the exposure to COVID19, in constant monitoring and adaptation to the context evolution. This include social distancing and strict hygienic rules, such as handwashing, wearing a mask etc.
