Child Protection / Child Rights and Business Manager


The role

The Child Protection/ Child Rights and Business Manager will oversee the CP/Child Labour Case Management (CLMRS)/CR/supply chain within child protection programming in Kolwezi (in Lualaba Province in the south of DRC) and develop programme strategy toward a child labour remediation system. She/he will directly manage grants, and lead on programme planning, oversight of programme implementation, recruitment and procurement as per programme needs. 

Key priorities of this role will also include:

  • Lead on OCD-project with partners– technical and financial capacity building
  • Participate in key networks on behalf of Save the Children in relation to cobalt supply chains
  • Lead intake and build capacity in cross-technical adaptation of Child Rights and Business in mining (DRC) – strategy, programme development, research – and co-ordinate on behalf of SCI DRC across SCA/SCI
  • Play an active role in building Save the Children’s strategy and approach towards tackling child rights infringements and challenges from global mining supply chains – and develop capacity-building plan with International TA-support

Qualifications and experience

  • A Master Degree in social work, law, protection or relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Significant professional experience, at least 3 years of working at a senior level in child protection or child rights in governance and business for international NGOs, UN or government
  • Understanding of the child protection sector within the DRC context, especially in mining contexts
  • Significant experience working with CPiE programs and specifically with case management interventions
  • Experience and understanding of child labour issues, particularly in emergency settings
  • Proven representation and advocacy skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets.
  • Experience solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
  • French language fluency required; competency in English, both written and oral and in local languages strongly preferred. 
  • Commitment to Save the Children values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Safeguarding policy.
