** This competition is Anticipatory Staffing to create an eligibility list to staff openings at LE-04 level of indeterminate, term or emergency duration which may arise at the Embassy of Canada in Beijing. **

Summary of position:
Reports to the Consular Program Manager, the duties entail providing administrative support to the mission’s consular, passport and citizenship service delivery; providing back-up support to this service delivery; and other duties as required.

 

Essential qualifications:
Education:
• University or College degree or diploma from a recognized institution.
Language:
• Proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking)
Experience:
• Minimum two years’ experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service
• Minimum one (1) year experience performing general administrative duties
• Experience working on a PC in a network environment, including experience using mail, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge:
• General knowledge of Canada;
Abilities/skills:
• Ability to analyze information
• Ability to write effective business correspondence in English using Microsoft Office
• Ability to manage competing priorities effectively with a high level of details
• Ability to follow written instructions

Asset Qualifications:
Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:
Language:
• Proficiency in any of the following languages:
o French (reading, writing and speaking)
o Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)
Experience :
• Experience working and/or studying in an international environment
• Experience in providing consular services or call centre

 

Organizational Needs:
N/A

 

Operational Requirements:
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required

 

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
• Requirement to undergo and succeed the Passport Certification within 6 months

 

Area of selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at their own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at their own expense.
