The British Government in Germany is based at the British Embassy in Berlin and our consulates in Dusseldorf and Munich. We are part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Corporate Services (CS) Officer, Post Security Manager (PSM) and Deputy Information Technology Support Officer (DITSO) to contribute to the work of the British Consulate-General in Dusseldorf. The Consulate-General represents British interests in the German federal states of North Rhine Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland, with a focus on business relations and support to British citizens.

To provide a professional administrative support(Corporate Services – CS), to the Consulate and manage all aspects of CS work to approx. 28 colleagues on a daily basis, liaising closely with the Head of CS in Berlin and the wider CS team in Germany. The role incorporates Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Security, Estates, Logistics and providing back up to the Information Technology Support Officer (ITSO) and in accordance with best practice and central UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) policy.

Dusseldorf Post Security Manager (PSM) for the Consulate, working closely with the Consul General (CG) in Dusseldorf, the Overseas Security Manager and the other PSMs in the network.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Overall daily management of all aspects of corporate services work in the Consulate. Working closely with the CG and other sections to manage a small, professional CS team within the wider CS Germany team
  • Post Security Manager, including co-ordination with external Security Company and other stakeholders. Member of the Post Security Committee.
  • Responsibility for local accounting duties at the Consulate-General, meeting monthly deadlines and other local budget financial reporting duties, working closely with the British Embassy, Berlin.
  • Lead on the FCDO Oracle based system, local budget procurement and housekeeping for the Consulate and the wider CS team.
  • Working with the Germany Transport Manager to make sure that the Consulate car is well maintained and managed in line with FCDO guidelines.
  • Ensure that the Consulate and Consul General’s Residence comply with all aspects of Health & Safety and security issues, working closely with the external facilities management provider and other external contacts etc. 
  • Deputy IT Support Officer (DITSO); to provide back up when the IT Support Officer (ITSO) is on annual leave or out of the office to proactively maintain IT infrastructure and daily management of all aspects of IT.
  • Make a corporate contribution to supporting the team ethos of the Germany Network, together with the British Embassy, Berlin & Consulate-General, Munich.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Consulate-General, such as crisis planning and the organisation of large-scale events.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Fluent written and spoken English and German (minimum level required C1 under the CEFRL or equivalent*). Excellent communication skills;
  • Recent experience of relevant Corporate Service/ administrative work;
  • Budget management and forecasting skills, familiarity with accounting processes;
  • High standard of self-organisation, attention to detail and delivery;
  • Customer focussed and excellent customer service skills;
  • The ability to work independently but also with internal and external colleagues and contacts as appropriate;
  • Excellent IT skills, especially standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook);
  • Ability to keep confidentiality at all times.
  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  
  • Experience of working in an international environment;
  • Recent experience in a relevant security related position;
  • Experience of working with Oracle databases desirable
  • Line Management experience;
  • Health and Safety and Fire Safety knowledge or relevant experience;
  • Previous experience in the IT field.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, for a contract period of two years with possibility of renewal

Starting yearly salary (EUR)  

€61,080.00 gross per annum rising to approx €68,611.00 gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay. (Salary is not negotiable)
