The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is the world’s authoritative source of data and analysis on internal displacement. Since our establishment in 1998 as part of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we offer a rigorous, transparent and independent service to the international community, and inform policy and operational decisions to improve the lives of people living in, or at risk of, internal displacement.With a team of 31 people in Geneva and an annual budget of over 5 million USD, we monitor more than 130 countries in the world for which we provide verified, consolidated and multi-sourced estimates of the number of people internally displaced or at risk of becoming displaced by conflict, violence, disasters and development projects. We complement this global data with interdisciplinary research into the drivers, patterns and impacts of internal displacement. Using this evidence, we provide tailor-made advice and support to inform global, regional and national policy-making. Our data and evidence are published on our website and via our Global Internal Displacement Database*. Our flagship report, the Global Report on Internal Displacement *published every year in May, is the world reference on IDP statistics, featuring trends and thematic analyses, country and regional spotlights.
IDMC is now looking to measure the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health, education, livelihoods, housing, security and social life of IDPs and of members of their host communities. This opportunity is for a consulting firm to collect data on these impacts in Yemen.
Consultancy objective and specific tasks
This opportunity is for a consulting firm to administer a survey of approximately 15-20 questions on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on IDPS and members of their host community in Yemen. Under the supervision of the researcher in charge of this project, the consulting firm should:
- Create the survey based on IDMC’s questions and instructions;
- Propose a data collection plan to obtain solid information on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on IDPS and hosts in Yemen, adapted to the current situation in the country;
- Obtain at least 1,000 completed surveys including at least 20% internally displaced respondents;
- Deliver quality checked, clean survey data in a format readable on Microsoft Excel in English;
- Deliver a technical report including the detailed methodology and limitations of the data collection process.
The consulting firm is expected to give weekly updates on the project’s implementation, progress, challenges and lessons learnt to the researcher in charge of the project. The IDMC researcher will be available to discuss the methodology and adapt it when necessary throughout the project.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience conducting similar projects;
- Perfect command of the English language, both written and oral;
- Demonstrated research, analysis and writing skills;
- Registered as a consultancy firm
