Education technical specialists | Malawi | 2021

Chemonics seeks to fill various technical positions for the anticipated USAID Basic Education/Early Grade Reading project in Malawi. The $75 million project will build upon USAID’s current investments in Malawi’s National Reading Program to achieve marked improvements in student performance in reading. All positions will be based in Malawi. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Technical specialties of interest include:

  • Teacher training and professional development
  • Early grade literacy
  • Local language in early grade literacy
  • Education systems strengthening
  • Capacity building of school leadership
  • Community and parent engagement
  • Early childhood development
  • Teaching and learning materials and curriculum development
  • Inclusive education
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Education technology
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning of education programs

Qualifications include: 

  • Advanced degree in education or directly related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of  experience working in any of the following areas related to improving early grade education initiatives: designing and implementing pre-primary and primary literacy programs; developing teaching and learning materials; curriculum development; teacher professional development activities, particularly promoting gender equity, social and emotional learning, and inclusive education; and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience supervising long-term technical staff and short-term assignments preferred
  • Strong understanding of the development and education issues in east and southern Africa; demonstrated experience working in Malawi preferred
  • Familiarity with USAID tools and methodologies to improve education outcomes 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Chichewa
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
